Energizing the 110kV overhead line, restoring power supply to Phu Quoc

Accordingly, the restoration of power supply to Phu Quoc Island was carried out urgently, completed 5 days ahead of schedule. The 110kV overhead line was built from the existing underground cable connection tower to the shore on the Ha Tien side to the incident location with 4 towers. The project was successfully deployed and energized in a short time, promptly restoring power supply to serve the production and business activities of people and enterprises in Phu Quoc special economic zone after the incident.

The leaders of An Giang Electricity Company shared that this result was achieved thanks to the participation and strong direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of An Giang province, along with the support of relevant departments, agencies, and units, especially the sharing and companionship of the government, businesses, and people of Phu Quoc special zone with the electricity industry in overcoming the incident.

In particular, the proactive, timely and close coordination of the Southern Power System Control Center (SSO) in making a plan for power supply after the incident, performing calculations, establishing a method for energizing and preparing the necessary conditions to be able to re-energize the underground cable line immediately after completing the construction work. After restoring power to Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang Power Company continued to coordinate with related units to carry out the next steps to repair the damaged cable section, restoring the original status.

Previously, at 1:15 p.m. on November 29, 2025, an incident occurred on the 110kV line 173 Ha Tien - 172 Phu Quoc, causing a power outage at the 110kV Phu Quoc substation, affecting the power supply to the Phu Quoc special zone. This line transmits electricity from the national power system through Ha Tien to Phu Quoc island, supplying the 110kV Phu Quoc substation, including the 110kV underground cable section under the sea from Ha Tien - Phu Quoc and on land.

The initial cause was that Thuan Thanh Kien Giang Construction Design Consulting Co., Ltd. was constructing a platform in the safety corridor of the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable line on the Ha Tien coast. The steel pile driving of the platform was the cause of the incident in the 110kV underground cable section supplying power to the Phu Quoc special zone.

Immediately after the incident occurred, to maintain power supply and safe operation of the power system, An Giang Electricity Company urgently implemented a plan to supply priority power from the 110/22kV Nam Phu Quoc Station via the 22kV medium voltage grid for priority customer groups; mobilized large customers with self-operated generators to supply power to take advantage of the remaining capacity to serve domestic customers...

Southern Power Corporation has also mobilized 20 mobile diesel generators from member Power Companies, with a total capacity of 3.5MW, to transport to Phu Quoc to increase power supply.

Currently, Phu Quoc special economic zone has two main power supply sources including: 110kV line 173 Ha Tien - 172 Phu Quoc (underground & overhead cable) and 220kV line Kien Binh - Phu Quoc (supplying 110kV voltage to Nam Phu Quoc station). These two power supply sources ensure energy security for Phu Quoc, which is especially important in socio -economic development, especially tourism as well as people's lives on the island.
