Dong Thap: Popularizing national standards for frozen durian.

(DONG THAP) On the morning of December 11th, the Vietnam Institute of Standards and Quality, in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), organized a conference to disseminate the National Standard (TCVN) on frozen durian, with the participation of delegates from departments, agencies, experts, and businesses in Dong Thap and the surrounding area.

At the conference, UNIDO representatives emphasized the crucial role of standards and quality for Vietnamese agricultural products in the context of integration. Durian is a product with strong growth and great export potential; therefore, diversifying products and applying unified technical standards and quality management to frozen durian is essential to ensure food safety, sensory quality, and product consistency.

UNIDO stated that, through its Global Quality and Standards Program (GQSP), it has collaborated with regulatory agencies and businesses to support the development, refinement, and dissemination of standards; training; the development of processes and demonstration models; and technical support along the value chain, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Furthermore, UNIDO also emphasizes the link between standards, technological innovation, and sustainable development. The application of Vietnamese standards (TCVN) for frozen durian, combined with post-harvest management, the cold chain, and sustainable packaging, will contribute to reducing food loss and waste, enhancing value, and directly contributing to sustainable development goals.

At the conference, delegates heard about the amended Law on Standards and Technical Regulations and the National Standard System (TCVN) on fruits; the content of the draft National Standard TCVN 14579:2005 on frozen durian; and the content of the draft National Standard TCVN 14580:2005 on Code of Practice for Processing Frozen Durian.

The conference also provided an opportunity for delegates to discuss solutions for applying the standards, share implementation experiences, and listen to recommendations from experts and businesses. UNIDO acknowledged the efforts of the Vietnam Institute of Standards and Quality in coordinating with specialized agencies and the business community to develop and refine the Vietnamese National Standard (TCVN) on frozen durian, meeting the requirements of management and practical production, processing, and export.

UNIDO affirms its continued partnership with Vietnam to promote a standards-based and quality ecosystem linked to innovation, contributing to the development of a modern and sustainable agricultural sector.
