
In the remaining months of this year, the Ministry of Construction will complete the procedures to commence investment in completing the remaining road tunnels on the Eastern North-South Expressway to increase operational capacity and ensure traffic safety.
Regarding the investment in completing 9 road tunnels on the Eastern North-South Expressway, the Ministry of Construction has completed the investment procedures for 6 tunnels belonging to the North-South Expressway in the 2021-2025 period and plans to organize implementation by adding them to the corresponding contracts.
Specifically, the Ministry of Construction and its affiliated project management boards and contractors have commenced construction on the following tunnels: Son Trieu, Tuy An, and tunnel No. 1 of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project; and are currently carrying out procedures to commence construction on three more tunnels: Deo But tunnel, and tunnels No. 2 and 3 of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon project in October 2025.
With the remaining three tunnels – Cù Mông, Núi Vung, and Thần Vũ – belonging to the PPP investment projects of the North-South expressway in the 2017-2020 period, the investment implementation time and contractor selection will be minimized to allow for commencement of construction by the end of 2025.
The North-South Expressway Eastern section, phase 2021-2025, includes the construction of six tunnels: the Deo But tunnel, 778m long (Vung Ang - Bung section); tunnel No. 1, 698m long; tunnel No. 2, 575m long; and tunnel No. 3,200m long (Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon section); the Son Trieu tunnel, 575m long (Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh section); and the Tuy An tunnel, 1,020m long (Chi Thanh - Van Phong section).

All six tunnels were approved with a complete investment and construction plan for a single tunnel tube on the right (including the electromechanical system for operation).
The left tunnel section is undergoing excavation and the tunnel lining is being completed to protect the structure, facilitate rescue operations during operation, and ensure the overall scale of the entire route is met in the final stage.
According to the Ministry of Construction: Investing in the complete construction of two tunnels for independent and synchronized operation between the road section and the tunnels is necessary to increase traffic capacity, enhance traffic safety on the route during operation and use, and improve the investment efficiency of the project.
To expedite the completion and simultaneous commissioning of the tunnels, the investors have also proposed to the Ministry of Construction that the project be implemented using a supplementary approach to the corresponding contracts, taking advantage of the machinery, equipment, and manpower of the contractors currently working on the project, thereby saving time and costs.
