Artist Hong Sap was born in 1937 in Hanoi . At the age of 8, she moved south with her parents to perform. At 14, she joined the Huynh Long Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) troupe. Artist Hong Sap gradually became familiar to audiences through her villainous roles in several Cai Luong plays such as: Tam Cam, The Love Story of A Nang, Two Streams of Mother's Milk...
At 88 years old, with gray hair and a hunched back, artist Hong Sap still has to earn a living, living in precarious conditions.
However, when the troupe disbanded, she stopped singing and moved behind the scenes to work in theater. During the period when cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) was no longer popular, she acted in television dramas to make ends meet.
Currently, artist Hong Sap still regularly goes to Nhon Hoa Temple (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) to wash costumes and clean. Occasionally, she accompanies the temple's theater troupe, dressing the artists in costumes for a fee of 300,000 VND per show. This amount is enough for her and her grandson to get by.
She believes that every job is difficult and not easy, but for her, if you receive a salary, you must work in a way that is worthy of it.
