On the evening of July 10 (US time), during an hour-long live broadcast, billionaire Elon Musk and the xAI company officially announced Grok 4, a new version of the AI chatbot based on data from the social network platform X.
Grok is xAI's answer to models like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini, with the ability to analyze images and respond to questions.
Expectations are high for Grok 4 right now. The latest AI model from xAI is being compared to OpenAI's latest version, GPT-5, which is expected to be released later this summer.
"For academic questions, Grok 4 gives better answers than even PhDs in every subject without exception. It has not invented new technology or discovered new physics yet, but that is only a matter of time," said Elon Musk.
Grok 4 showed impressive results in Humanity's Last Exam performance tests - a measure of AI's ability to answer thousands of questions on topics like math, humanities, and natural sciences .
As a result, this AI model achieved 25.4% (without tools) and Grok 4 Heavy achieved 44.4% (with tools). For comparison, this achievement is completely superior to Gemini 2.5 Pro and o3 of OpenAI. In addition, Grok 4 also set a new score record in the ARC-AGI-2 test for puzzle solving ability with 16.2%, nearly double that of the Claude Opus 4 model.
Along with Grok 4 and Grok 4 Heavy, xAI is launching its most expensive AI subscription yet at $300 /month called SuperGrok Heavy. Subscribers to this plan will get an early experience of Grok 4 Heavy as well as early access to new features.
