Area for preparing the rotor assembly for unit 2 of the project.
According to EVNPMB1's report, key items such as the dismantling of the cofferdam, the installation of the rotor for unit 1, and the water diversion tunnel have been completed. The electrical equipment and auxiliary systems have also been fully installed.
The plant area and technical rooms are being completed. The installation of GIS equipment, transformers, and auxiliary power systems is being accelerated to ensure the no-load testing of the generator unit and official power generation on August 19, 2025.
Currently, construction work is being significantly affected by adverse weather conditions due to Typhoon No. 3 and its remnants. However, with the spirit of "overcoming the sun, conquering the rain, and not being defeated by the storm," construction work is being maintained in a strict, scientific , and safe manner.
On the construction site, EVNPMB1 and the contractor have arranged a drainage system, flood control measures, machine room covers, and foundation pit covers. Simultaneously, they have deployed standby personnel and organized construction teams at safe locations to avoid disrupting the main progress schedule.
EVN leaders requested the Power Project Management Board 1 to urgently complete the work items to ensure that Unit 1 is ready for power generation on schedule. At the same time, the internal road system must be completed, ensuring the architectural landscape of the expanded Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant area.
Construction and supervision units continue to closely monitor the construction site, coordinating closely between construction teams, promptly handling any arising issues, and maintaining the project's progress. Absolute safety for people, equipment, and the structure is guaranteed in all situations.
Previously, on July 6, 2025, at the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion site, the rotor of unit number 1 – one of the particularly important components of the project – was successfully installed, marking an important step towards the grid connection and power generation milestone on August 19, 2025.
The rotor was successfully installed after more than 3 hours of work. According to Bui Phuong Nam, Director of Power Project Management Board 1, the rotor of unit number 1 weighs 585 tons, has a diameter of 11.245 meters, and a height of 2.5 meters – it is the rotating part of the generator. This rotor was assembled urgently by the contractor Lilama10 in more than 40 days. The installation process was calculated, coordinated, and organized scientifically and systematically, strictly adhering to technical procedures.
Under the close guidance of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), the Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1), along with contractors and construction units, completed the installation work on schedule, safely, and in accordance with technical specifications.
The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project is currently Vietnam's largest hydropower expansion project in terms of capacity. Notably, the project is being constructed right next to the existing Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant. The construction process requires ensuring both timely completion and minimal disruption to the stable operation of the existing facility. This is a challenging task, but it also demonstrates the increasingly professional management and construction organization skills of EVN/EVNPMB1.
During the construction process, despite facing significant difficulties, under the guidance and direction of the Government, ministries, and agencies, along with the proactive and decisive efforts of the investor and the hard work of the construction units on the site, the project is now ready for the power generation milestone of August 19, 2025, as directed by the Prime Minister .
