Area preparing for rotor assembly work of unit 2 of the project
According to EVNPMB1's report, up to now, key items such as dismantling the embankment, installing the rotor of unit 1, and the water tunnel have been completed. The electrical equipment system and auxiliary systems have been installed.
The factory area and technical rooms are being completed. The installation of GIS equipment, transformers, auxiliary power systems, etc. is being accelerated to ensure the progress of no-load testing of the generator and official power generation on August 19, 2025.
Currently, the construction work is being greatly affected by unfavorable weather conditions due to the impact of storm No. 3 and its circulation. However, with the spirit of "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain, not losing to the wind and storm", the construction work is still maintained strictly, scientifically and safely.
At the construction site, EVNPMB1 and the contractor have arranged drainage systems, flood control, machine room covers, and foundation pits. At the same time, they have arranged on-duty forces and organized construction teams at safe locations to avoid interrupting the main progress.
EVN leaders requested the Power Project Management Board 1 to urgently complete the work items to be ready to generate electricity for Unit 1 on schedule. At the same time, it is necessary to complete the construction of the internal road system, ensuring the landscape architecture of the expanded Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant area.
Construction units and supervision consultants continue to closely monitor the construction site, closely coordinate between construction teams, promptly handle any arising issues, and maintain project progress. Ensure absolute safety for people, equipment, and construction in all situations.
Previously, on July 6, 2025, at the construction site of the Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant expansion, the rotor of Unit 1 - one of the especially important components of the project was successfully installed, marking an important step towards the grid connection milestone on August 19, 2025.
The rotor was successfully installed after more than 3 hours of implementation. According to Director of Power Project Management Board 1 Bui Phuong Nam, the rotor of Unit 1 weighs 585 tons, has a diameter of 11.245 meters, and a height of 2.5 meters - the rotating part of the generator. This rotor was urgently assembled by contractor Lilama10 in more than 40 days. The installation process was calculated, coordinated and organized in a scientific and methodical manner, strictly following technical procedures.
Under the close direction of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), Power Project Management Board 1 (EVNPMB1) together with contractors and construction units have completed the installation work on schedule, safely, and ensuring technical parameters.
The Hoa Binh Hydropower Expansion Project is the largest hydropower expansion project in Vietnam at present. Notably, the project is being constructed right next to the existing Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant. The construction process requires ensuring progress while not affecting the stable operation of the existing project. This is a difficult problem but also a testament to the increasingly professional management and construction organization of EVN/EVNPMB1.
During the construction process, despite facing great difficulties, under the attention and direction of the Government, Ministries and branches, together with the initiative and determination of the investor, the efforts of the construction units at the construction site, the project is now ready for the power generation milestone of August 19, 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister .
