Of which, nearly 4,000 students study abroad on state budget scholarships managed by the Ministry of Education and Training .
Students who study and conduct research abroad using non-state budget funds mainly receive scholarships and are self-funded.
Self-funded international students can study abroad through organizations that provide study abroad consulting services or by contacting foreign educational institutions directly.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training will receive 597 foreign students to study in Vietnam under the Agreement (11 countries including 407 Vietnamese language preparatory, 45 university, 68 master, 11 doctoral, 66 short-term), mainly students from Laos and Cambodia; a small number from the Russian Federation, China and some other countries.
There are currently about 22,000 foreign students studying at educational institutions in Vietnam (not including students coming for short-term study, research and training); of which nearly 4,000 are students under the Agreement (mainly students from Laos and Cambodia).
Foreign students coming to Vietnam for study and internships are very diverse. Besides those who come on scholarship agreements, the majority of students come through various other channels such as self-funded studies, and bilateral agreements at the university or local level.
The Ministry of Education and Training said: To promote the training of high-quality human resources abroad using the state budget, the Ministry of Education and Training is implementing the Project "Improving the capacity of lecturers and managers of higher education institutions to meet the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training in the 2019-2030 period" and scholarship programs of the Agreement (11 countries) to send people to study abroad using the state budget.
The subjects sent to study include officials, civil servants, public employees, students, and trainees.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Ministry of Education and Training sent 597 people (105 PhDs, 177 Masters, 274 undergraduates, 41 interns) to study under Agreement scholarship programs (mainly in the Russian Federation, Hungary, China, Poland, Laos, Cambodia); 73 lecturers from higher education institutions to study for a doctorate under Project 89 (12 countries), mainly in Australia, the UK, and New Zealand; and at the same time received 693 international graduates.
International students are sent to study abroad mainly in priority fields of science, technology, economics , management, medicine, arts and many other fields that Vietnam has high training needs.
