In recent trading sessions, coffee prices have been stable with narrow fluctuations, a stark contrast to the previous period when prices fluctuated by hundreds of dollars. This stability facilitates trading but is less attractive to speculators accustomed to aggressive short-term trading.

Yesterday, many agricultural production and export sectors, such as coffee, pepper, seafood, and rice, received positive news when the National Assembly passed the Law amending and supplementing several articles of the Value Added Tax Law. The new law will officially take effect from January 1, 2026.

The adjustment of the law is considered necessary to support the recovery from natural disasters, storms, and floods, and to promote the early restoration of production and business, especially in the agricultural sector. Along with that, long-standing obstacles in the VAT refund process are also expected to be resolved.

As previously reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, from July 1st, agricultural export businesses have to pay VAT and then wait for a refund with complicated procedures. This situation causes capital flows to be tied up and poses a risk of not receiving a refund due to errors from a third party. In the coffee industry alone, the amount of outstanding tax could reach approximately 10,000 billion VND annually.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices fell slightly in the most recent trading session:

Robusta coffee (London):

January 2026 delivery: Down $69/ton to $4,137/ton

Delivery in March 2026: Decreased by $99/ton to $4,008/ton

Arabica coffee (New York):

December 2025 delivery: Down 7.45 cents/lb to 398 cents/lb

March 2026 delivery: Down 6.25 cents/lb to 369.95 cents/lb

Robusta coffee prices continue to face pressure as Vietnam enters the peak harvest season for the 2025-2026 crop year. Increased seasonal supply is making the robusta market less favorable than in previous periods.

Traders say harvesting activity in Vietnam, the world's leading robusta coffee producer, is gradually improving after being disrupted by storms and floods. Some new coffee beans have appeared on the market, although not in large quantities, and their quality is considered stable.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai, Chairman of the Vietnam Coffee and Cocoa Association, Vietnam's coffee production for the 2025-2026 crop year is expected to increase by about 10% compared to the previous crop year. This forecast remains unchanged from previously published estimates.

Conversely, arabica prices continued to rise due to supply difficulties from Brazil. Data from the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Association showed that coffee exports in November reached only 3.58 million bags, a sharp decrease compared to the same period last year and the lowest level since 2021. Exports of green coffee beans, arabica, robusta, and processed coffee all declined, with robusta experiencing a significant drop due to persistently high domestic demand in Brazil.
