Developments in the North
In the northern region, the downward trend in live pig prices continues, with many places adjusting prices down by another 1,000 VND/kg, bringing prices to fluctuate between 64,000 and 66,000 VND/kg.
In localities such as Bac Ninh, Hanoi , Ninh Binh, and Hung Yen, the price of live pigs has decreased by 1,000 VND/kg, currently being purchased by traders at 65,000 VND/kg.
Prices in Lao Cai and Lai Chau also decreased by another 1,000 VND/kg, currently trading at around 64,000 VND/kg.
Some remaining provinces and cities in the region did not record any further price changes compared to the previous session.
Central and Central Highlands markets
In the central provinces and the Central Highlands region, live pig prices decreased by 1,000 VND/kg in many places this morning, with the common purchase price ranging from 62,000 to 66,000 VND/kg.
Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces recorded a decrease of 1,000 VND/kg, with the current price at 64,000 VND/kg.
The three provinces of Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, and Hue also adjusted their prices downwards similarly, with live pig prices currently being purchased at 63,000 VND/kg.
Southern region
In the South, pork prices continued to fall slightly in some localities this morning, currently fluctuating between 65,000 and 67,000 VND/kg.
Prices in Dong Nai and An Giang both decreased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to yesterday, currently trading at 66,000 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, An Giang, Vinh Long, Can Tho, and Ca Mau maintained the same price levels as the previous session. However, if the downward trend continues, the high price levels in the South are likely to be further adjusted downwards.
This latest price adjustment likely stems from weakened consumer demand, abundant supply, and a market lacking clear signs of recovery. Additionally, stagnant purchasing power after the summer holidays and unfavorable weather conditions have also significantly impacted pork consumption.
African swine fever outbreak in Da Nang
On July 11th, after receiving a report about a sow belonging to Ms. Nguyen Thi Dao in Ngoc My neighborhood, Quang Phu ward, Da Nang city, dying with signs of African swine fever, veterinary officers from the Quang Phu Ward Public Service Center collected samples for testing. The results came back positive for the African swine fever virus, according to Da Nang Newspaper.
Immediately after detecting cases of African swine fever, the People's Committee of Quang Phu ward focused on directing and implementing prevention and control measures and environmental sanitation in livestock farming in the area.
Accordingly, the local authorities established a task force to combat African swine fever, carrying out the disposal of dead pigs and implementing measures to contain the outbreak and disinfect the affected area to prevent the disease from spreading.
At the same time, disseminate information and guide livestock farmers in the affected areas to strictly apply hygiene and disinfection measures using lime powder and chemicals in the pig pens and surrounding areas, and to refrain from selling, trading, or transporting sick or suspected sick pigs, or discarding dead pigs in public, which could spread the disease and pollute the environment, in accordance with regulations.
When pigs show signs of illness or death, people should immediately report it to the authorities so that the pigs can be disposed of properly, and thorough disinfection and sterilization measures can be implemented to eliminate pathogens and prevent the spread of disease.
As of July 16th, two outbreaks of African swine fever have been reported in Quang Phu ward, specifically in Ngoc My and Phu Quy neighborhoods. Authorities have destroyed 31 infected pigs with a total weight of 1,245 kg.
