World gold prices surged to a new record high of $3,585.3, an increase of over $33 in a single day. Converted using the Vietcombank exchange rate, the world gold price is equivalent to approximately 114.5 million VND per tael (excluding taxes and fees). Currently, SJC gold bars maintain a price nearly 21 million VND higher than the world price per tael.
Precious metals surged after reports showed a weak US labor market. Specifically, the September 5th report from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics painted a bleak picture of employment. Data showed a sharp decline in US job growth in August, adding only 22,000 jobs. This was significantly lower than the 75,000 jobs expected by economists surveyed by Dow Jones. The unemployment rate rose to 4.3%, as predicted. Furthermore, the June figures were revised down by 13,000 jobs, while July, although slightly revised up by 6,000, remained at a low 79,000 jobs. These figures further reinforced predictions that the Federal Reserve (Fed) would cut interest rates at its upcoming meeting. The market is almost certain the Fed will cut interest rates by 0.25%, with even a 12% chance of a 0.5% reduction.
