World oil prices

At 6:00 AM on March 15th, Brent crude oil was trading at $85.42 per barrel, up $1.39 from the previous session. WTI crude oil was at $81.26 per barrel, up $1.54.

Oil prices surged due to high demand in the US and the potential for supply disruptions following repeated attacks on Russian refineries.

In addition, the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts a tighter market in 2024 and has raised its outlook on oil demand growth this year.

The IEA raised its 2024 oil demand growth forecast for the fourth time since November as Houthi attacks disrupted shipping in the Red Sea, but warned that "the global economic slowdown acts as an additional drag on oil use."

Energy watchdogs forecast demand will increase by 1.3 million barrels per day in 2024, up 110,000 barrels per day from last month, but still lower than last year's growth of 2.3 million barrels per day.

The IEA also cut its 2024 supply forecast and now expects oil supplies to increase by 800,000 barrels per day to 102.9 million barrels per day this year.

Domestic fuel prices

From 3 PM on March 14th, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline decreased by 22 VND/liter, to 22,290 VND/liter. The price of RON95 gasoline decreased by 14 VND/liter, not exceeding 23,549 VND/liter.

Oil prices fluctuated depending on the type. Specifically, diesel increased by 78 VND/liter, not exceeding 20,549 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 97 VND/liter, not exceeding 20,706 VND/liter; and fuel oil increased by 299 VND/kg, not exceeding 16,432 VND/kg.

In this price adjustment period, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance decided to allocate 300 VND/kg to the fuel price stabilization fund for mazut.

At the same time, no price stabilization fund will be established for E5 RON92 gasoline, RON95 gasoline, diesel fuel, and kerosene.

The regulatory agency also did not use the fuel price stabilization fund for these items.
