Ba Ria - Vung Tau Two fishermen in Phuoc Tinh commune, Long Dien district opened the lid to go down to the seafood storage tank on the ship to get some things, then fainted and died.

At noon on May 12, the victim's body was brought by the ship owner to Phuoc Tinh fishing port and handed over to Long Dien district police for examination and investigation of the cause.

Mr. Phan Thach, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuoc Tinh Commune, said the work accident happened yesterday, when the fishing boat was fishing in the waters off the coast of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

Two fishermen, aged 29 and 34, opened the lid and went down to the seafood storage compartment to retrieve their belongings when they fainted. They were discovered by people on the ship and brought out of the compartment but were already dead.

According to Mr. Thach, there have been many deaths in seafood storage tanks in the locality, the cause of which is not necessarily gas poisoning.

"When these tunnels are opened, there must be a certain amount of time for oxygen to get inside. If fishermen go down into the tunnel right after opening the lid, they will suffocate and die," said Mr. Thach.
