International airlines continuously increase flights, Phu Quoc tourism forecasts outstanding growth

"New magnet" attracts Korean and Taiwanese customers

Recently, Korean airline Eastar Jet announced to operate flights from Cheongju city, Korea to Phu Quoc, Vietnam with a frequency of four times a week.

The appearance of Eastar Jet brings the total number of Korean airlines operating direct flights from "kimchi land" cities to the pearl island of Vietnam to four, besides Korean Air, Jin Air, Jeju Air...

Recently, according to a survey published by Rankify Korea, Phu Quoc is the most favorite destination for Korean tourists - the largest market sending visitors to Vietnam, surpassing Da Nang , Nha Trang and many familiar destinations of this type of tourist such as Bangkok, Phuket of Thailand and Kyoto, Japan...

Not only is Phu Quoc accelerating in the race to attract Korean tourists, it is also becoming a formidable competitor to many destinations in the region, as it is increasingly attracting Taiwanese tourists. TigerAir and Starlux Airlines are operating about 8 flights to Phu Quoc every week.

Assessing the increasing demand of Taiwanese tourists, Mr. Chih Hao Chen - Marketing Director of Starlux Airlines shared about the airline's upcoming plans: "The airline is currently using A321neo aircraft for flights to Phu Quoc, with a total of 188 seats per flight. The booking rate has exceeded 90% in July and August. Ticket sales are in good condition.

The Taipei to Phu Quoc route will be replaced with wide-body aircraft in October. We also plan to add a new route from Taichung to Phu Quoc Island in late October."

This is a leap compared to the same period in 2023, when in just the first 6 months of this year, the island city welcomed 1,947 international flights to Phu Quoc, an increase of 186% over the same period last year.

According to Phu Quoc International Airport, in the last 6 months of the year, the number of international flights will increase to 22-26 flights per day, 2.5 times higher than at the beginning of the year.

That shows the efforts of Phu Quoc tourism in the race to attract international visitors. According to data from the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, in the first 6 months of the year, the number of international visitors to the city was 499,172, reaching 74.9% of the yearly plan and increasing by 134.8% over the same period in 2023.

Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of Phu Quoc City People's Committee said: "Currently, Korean and Taiwanese tourists account for a large proportion of international visitors to Phu Quoc, followed by those from Europe.

In the second half of the year, the number of international flights and total international arrivals to Phu Quoc are expected to continue to increase compared to the same period in 2023."

Phu Quoc is affirming its position as the "darling" of international tourists.

Typically, the southern part of the island, projects invested by Sun Group are being voted as one of the attractive destinations for international tourists, especially Korean, Taiwanese and many other tourist markets in the region.
