Recently, Eastar Jet, a South Korean airline, announced it will operate flights from Cheongju, South Korea to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, with a frequency of four times a week.
The arrival of Eastar Jet brings the total number of South Korean airlines operating direct flights from South Korean cities to Vietnam's Pearl Island to four, alongside Korean Air, Jin Air, Jeju Air, and others.
Recently, according to a survey published by Rankify Korea, Phu Quoc is the most popular destination for South Korean tourists – the largest source market for tourists to Vietnam – surpassing Da Nang , Nha Trang, and many previously familiar destinations for this group of tourists such as Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand and Kyoto in Japan.
Not only is Phu Quoc accelerating its pace in attracting Korean tourists, but it is also becoming a formidable competitor to many destinations in the region, as it is increasingly appealing to Taiwanese visitors. TigerAir and Starlux Airlines are currently operating approximately 8 flights to Phu Quoc per week.
Assessing the increasing demand from Taiwanese tourists, Mr. Chih Hao Chen, Marketing Director of Starlux Airlines, shared the airline's upcoming plans: "The airline is currently using A321neo aircraft for flights to Phu Quoc, with a total of 188 seats per flight. The booking rate exceeded 90% in July and August. Ticket sales are in good shape."
The flight route from Taipei to Phu Quoc will be replaced with wide-body aircraft in October. We also plan to add a new route from Taichung to Phu Quoc Island at the end of October."

This represents a significant leap compared to the same period in 2023, when in the first six months of this year alone, the island city welcomed 1,947 international flights to Phu Quoc, a 186% increase compared to the same period last year.
According to Phu Quoc International Airport, the number of international flights will increase to 22-26 flights per day in the last six months of the year, 2.5 times more than at the beginning of the year.
This demonstrates the efforts of Phu Quoc tourism in the race to attract international tourists. According to data from the Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism, in the first six months of the year, the number of international visitors to the city was 499,172, reaching 74.9% of the annual plan and increasing by 134.8% compared to the same period in 2023.
Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Quoc City, said: "Currently, tourists from South Korea and Taiwan account for a large proportion of international visitors to Phu Quoc, followed by those from Europe."
In the second half of the year, the number of international flights and the total number of international visitors to Phu Quoc are expected to continue to increase compared to the same period in 2023.
