“Say You Need Me” and a Story About Depression

On May 17th, at Nam Thi House (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City), AnBooks Company, in collaboration with Vietsuccess, organized a book launch and discussion event for "Say That Your Child Needs You," a book by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Hoa. The book offers gentle and practical perspectives for readers whose loved ones suffer from depression.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Hoa is a leading expert in psychology in Vietnam. She previously served as the Head of the Experimental and Applied Psychology Department at the Institute of Psychology (now the Institute of Sociology and Psychology) under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences . She is currently the Director of the Institute of Psychology and Communication under the Vietnam Psychological Association.

With over 300 pages of content divided into two parts, the book presents many practical stories about parents whose children suffer from depression, analyzing and offering solutions to common depressive conditions. In addition, "Tell Me Your Child Needs You" focuses on clarifying common signs and causes of the illness, helping readers gain more knowledge and easily recognize their own mental health and that of their loved ones.

As a therapeutic consultant, Ms. Mai Thi Viet Thang shared: “This book is for people living with depression and their family members, researchers, therapists, or simply those interested in mental health. People from different backgrounds can find scientific information, explanations, comfort, support, motivation, and peace of mind in diagnosing, treating, and overcoming depression. And even if we can't overcome it and live with it, we will live with understanding and empathy.”

This book is the culmination of extensive research by Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, compiled from 500 international scientific research sources with the latest updates. However, the author does not intend this to be a scientific book, but rather aims to create an optimistic view of depression. At the same time, the author clarifies paradoxes about the disease, such as: depressed individuals do not completely "lose motivation," and the more proactive they are, the greater their chances of recovery…
