In recent times, farmers' associations at all levels in the province have actively coordinated with specialized agencies to promote the transfer of scientific and technological advances to members and farmers for application in production, contributing to reducing costs, increasing productivity and product quality, aiming at developing concentrated, large-scale commodity agriculture .
The model of growing melons using Israeli technology of Ms. Tran Thi Nhan, Tien Duc commune (Hung Ha) is highly effective.
Mr. Le Hong Son, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, said: In order to effectively support the application of scientific and technological advances, the associations at all levels have focused on propagating, mobilizing, guiding, and supporting members and farmers to establish 102 collective economic models, including 6 cooperatives and 96 cooperative groups. From 2017 to 2023, the associations at all levels and member organizations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have coordinated to organize more than 11,700 training courses on transferring science, technology, and high technology to more than 1 million members and farmers; secured more than 3,500 billion VND from banks for more than 70,900 members and farmers to borrow to develop production; supported more than 9,500 tons of deferred fertilizer worth more than 137 billion VND.
In addition, the association also encourages and attracts a large number of members and farmers to participate in applying scientific and technological achievements suitable to the actual situation of their families and localities. Every year, the association at all levels proactively coordinates with consulting units to support, train, and instruct the construction of VietGAP demonstration models, OCOP products, and transfer models of applying science and technology to production, preservation, and processing of agricultural products to members and farmers.
Produced in a favorable environment with capital and knowledge in hand and support from all levels of the association, many members and farmers have boldly invested and applied science and technology in production, bringing about many times higher efficiency than traditional production. Thanks to boldly borrowing capital and investing in building a model of growing melons using Israeli technology, each year Ms. Tran Thi Nhan, Phu Vat village, Tien Duc commune (Hung Ha) harvests about 11 tons of melons, earning a profit of more than 400 million VND. “With the support of the government and the Farmers' Association, my family rented land from the locals and invested 1.2 billion VND to build a greenhouse to grow melons on an area of about 1.2 hectares. Growing melons in greenhouses helps reduce the impact of weather on crops and prevent pests. The melons grow and develop well, and when harvested, the melons have even skin and beautiful colors. The products are easy to sell, and supermarkets buy them right away, so my family only needs to take care of them,” Ms. Nhan shared.
With the model of raising ducks, cows combined with fish ponds, Mr. Mai Cong Phuong, Van Dong village, Hong Dung commune (Thai Thuy) earns a profit of more than 300 million VND per year. To achieve this result, Mr. Phuong actively participated in training courses, technology transfer, and field trips organized by the Commune Farmers' Association to apply to his family's model. Mr. Phuong shared: On an area of 7 hectares, I raise about 2,500 ducks, 14 cows and maintain 4 fish ponds. Previously, my family's ducks often got sick because the farm floor was not hygienic. In the past 2 years, I invested 130 million VND in stainless steel floors, automatic feeding systems and applied new farming techniques, the ducks are raised in a closed process. This helps solve the problem of barn hygiene, the ducks are not only healthy and beautiful but also shorten the farming time from 2 and a half months to 45 days. Every year I sell about 8,000 commercial ducks to traders.
Mr. Mai Cong Phuong, Hong Dung commune (Thai Thuy) applies scientific and technical advances to duck farming, earning a profit of more than 300 million VND per year.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hong Dung Commune, said: Along with Mr. Phuong's model, many members and farmers in the commune have also actively applied science and technology to raise earthworms combined with rice cultivation, raising laying hens... The Farmers' Association of the commune has coordinated with related units to organize training, transfer science and technology, support loans, and supply fertilizers to members and farmers. However, most models are still small-scale production, with fragmented areas, so the efficiency is not high.
The application of scientific and technological advances has contributed to promoting the development of agricultural production, improving crop and livestock productivity. In the coming time, farmers' associations at all levels in the province will continue to support members and farmers to access and apply more widely scientific and technological achievements in agricultural production, contributing to promoting agriculture and rural areas to continue to have new developments, building a large-scale, efficient and sustainable agricultural production with high productivity, quality and competitiveness, and increasing income for members and farmers.
