Tet flowers have flooded the markets, with some types costing only a few tens of thousands of dong.

Taking a stroll through famous flower markets in Ho Chi Minh City such as Ho Thi Ky flower market (District 10) and Dam Sen fresh flower market (District 11), we observed many bouquets of white snowdrop flowers, or branches of peach blossoms with striking pink hues, already appearing, ready to serve people during the Lunar New Year.

According to vendors, the price of flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) this year remains the same as last year; however, it may fluctuate up or down depending on market conditions.

According to Mr. Duong Hung, owner of Thanh Tam flower shop in Dam Sen fresh flower market, he imported the flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) about a month ago. Many people have already come to his shop to buy flowers to decorate their homes for Tet early.

Snow plum blossoms are one of the most popular flowers during the Lunar New Year.

“At my shop, the most popular flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) are snow apricot blossoms and Sakura peach blossoms. Snow apricot blossoms from the garden and Sakura peach blossoms cost from 100,000 to 130,000 VND per bunch, while wild snow apricot blossoms cost from 40,000 to 60,000 VND per bunch. These flowers are imported from China and transported by plane to Ho Chi Minh City,” Mr. Hung said.

According to Mr. Hung, these flowers can last for 15-20 days. They are quite easy to care for; just put them in a vase and change the water every two days. Misting the stems is even better, as it will help the flowers bloom faster.

Currently, Sakura peach blossoms are priced between 100,000 and 130,000 VND per bunch.

Besides that, bouquets of willow blossoms in various colors such as red, pink, orange, yellow, and green are also chosen by people to decorate for Tet. Currently, a bouquet of willow blossoms at Mr. Hung's shop costs 70,000 VND.

Currently, the price of snowdrop flowers ranges from tens of thousands of dong to over 100,000 dong per bunch, depending on the type.

Holding a bouquet of peach blossoms and apricot blossoms in her hands, Ms. Nguyen Phi Yen, who works on Phu Tho Hoa Street (Tan Phu District), shared: “I regularly come here every week to buy flowers to arrange. Today I chose peach blossoms and apricot blossoms because Tet (Lunar New Year) is coming soon, so I want to buy them to decorate my house. Buying early gives you more choices, and the flowers are more beautiful. If you wait until closer to Tet, it will be very crowded. I think the current prices are cheap.”

At Ho Thi Ky flower market, vendors have also started selling peach blossoms and apricot blossoms to meet the early Tet (Lunar New Year) decoration needs of the people. Mr. Huynh Cam Tu, owner of Hang Nga flower shop in Ho Thi Ky flower market, shared that his shop currently has many pink peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and willow branches for sale. “A bunch of peach blossoms currently costs 80,000 VND, while apricot blossoms range from 60,000 to 120,000 VND. These prices will fluctuate depending on the time of year. This year the prices are still the same, but the quantity sold is not as much as last year,” Mr. Tu said.

According to shop owners, buyers are now starting to seek out flowers for Tet (Lunar New Year) celebrations.

According to Mr. Tú, these flowers are transported to Ho Chi Minh City by both road and air.

Also at Ho Thi Ky flower market, Phan Thi Phuong Uyen (22 years old), an employee at Thuan Trinh flower shop, said: "These days, sales are only sporadic because there aren't many customers. This type of snowdrop flower can last for about half a month," Uyen said.
