Nam Dinh Supporters Association dissolved

Báo Hải DươngBáo Hải Dương12/08/2023

Members of the Nam Dinh Supporters Club usually sit in the middle of stand B at Thien Truong Stadium to cheer on their home team.

The decision was made after a meeting held that same day with the participation of 27 people, including members of the Executive Board of the Association and representatives of member fan clubs in the province. Accordingly, 100% of the members agreed to dissolve the club and cease all cheering activities in the stadium.

The Nam Dinh Football Supporters' Association will no longer be involved in the football support activities of other members. Furthermore, the Association will hand over its office located at Thien Truong Stadium to the stadium management, and will no longer retain the name of its fan page, "Nam Dinh Football Supporters' Association," but will change it to "Nam Dinh Football Past and Present."

The decision to disband stemmed from Nam Dinh's 1-2 defeat to Hanoi Police on August 2nd at Thien Truong Stadium in Round 4 of Phase II of the V-League 2023. On that day, despite still having a chance to compete for the championship, Nam Dinh made eight changes to their starting lineup and displayed actions deemed lacking in positive spirit.

Fans at Thien Truong Stadium reacted strongly by throwing drums onto the field and burning jerseys during the match. On the morning of August 3rd, the Nam Dinh Supporters' Club returned a large number of jerseys that had been given away for free, collecting them and placing them in front of the office of the Director of Nam Dinh Green Steel Joint Stock Company. Following this incident, the club has not engaged in any dialogue with the Supporters' Club.

The office of the Nam Dinh Football Supporters' Club is located at Thien Truong Stadium.

After the match, many fans announced they would not attend the stadium to support Nam Dinh until the end of the season. In round 5 of phase II, a group of Nam Dinh fans were still present at Lach Tray stadium to cheer on their team in the match where Nam Dinh lost to Hai Phong 0-2, but this group was not part of the Nam Dinh Supporters' Club.

The Nam Dinh Supporters' Club was founded in the 2000s and has been with the club through many ups and downs, from finishing as runners-up in the V-League in 2004 and winning the National Cup in 2007 to being relegated twice in 2010 and 2011. After eight years, Nam Dinh returned to the V-League but often struggled in the relegation battle. In early 2022, Nam Dinh secured a new sponsor and received investment to acquire several quality players a year later, with ambitions to compete for top positions.

Prior to the match against Nam Dinh, SLNA fans also took drastic action in round 21 of the V-League 2022, believing the club played half-heartedly. Instead of supporting SLNA in their away match against Ho Chi Minh City FC, thousands of SLNA fans went to Binh Duong stadium to cheer for Ha Tinh FC.
