Hanoi Book Fair 2024: Over 200 booths from publishing businesses nationwide.

On the evening of September 27th, the 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024, themed “Hanoi: Capital of Culture and Heroism - City for Peace, ” officially opened in the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian area, Hoan Kiem District. Organized by the Hanoi People's Committee in coordination with the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Book Fair features the participation of over 30 publishers and book distributors nationwide, creating a cultural space for reading and offering many attractive book exchange and experience programs. Notably, the Book Fair continues to receive support and participation from several diplomatic agencies such as the Embassies of Laos, Cambodia, France, and Italy, promising many engaging and colorful cultural exchange activities. (Photo: Minh Quyet/VNA) In his opening remarks, Mr. Ha Minh Hai, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, stated that the Book Fair is not only a cultural event but also a bridge of knowledge, where each book carries stories, ideas, and knowledge that are widely shared. This year's Book Fair continues to affirm the important role of books in modern social life, especially in the context of the strong development and international integration of the Capital city. According to Mr. Ha Minh Hai, the enthusiastic and widespread participation of readers will be the decisive factor in creating the success and cultural identity of the Book Fair, promoting the cultural values of Thang Long-Hanoi, upholding the tradition of the heroic capital - a City for Peace, so that Hanoi becomes the "Capital of Books and Knowledge," contributing to the concretization of the goal of building Hanoi into a center for the convergence and promotion of cultural values, creating internal strength for sustainable development as set forth in Resolution No. 15-NQ/TW of the Politburo . A highlight of the activities is the book exhibition with the theme "Hanoi: The Capital of Culture and Heroism - A City for Peace." Publishers and book companies have prepared many attractive and meaningful exchange programs, introducing new works to readers and conveying a message of pride in the cultural and historical traditions of Thang Long-Hanoi in particular and Vietnam in general. (Photo: PV/Vietnam+) Some notable programs included: a seminar and book launch for "The British East India Company in Tonkin (1672-1697)" with guest speaker Professor-Doctor Hoang Anh Tuan, Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Hanoi Publishing House); and a seminar and book launch for "History of Vietnam in Pictures" with guest speaker Associate Professor-Doctor Phan Ngoc Huyen, Department of History, Hanoi Pedagogical University (Dong A Culture Joint Stock Company). Notably, despite the difficulties faced by the publishing industry and the impact of Typhoon No. 3 on many publishing units in Hanoi, the Organizing Committee, upholding the tradition of "mutual support and compassion," encouraged publishing houses, book companies in the area, participating publishing units, and readers to donate books to school libraries in the suburban districts of Hanoi severely affected by the storm and floods. Following the conclusion of the Book Fair, the Department of Information and Communications will coordinate with the Department of Education and Training and the Hanoi Youth Union to receive, classify, and distribute books to schools. The 9th Hanoi Book Fair - 2024 took place from September 27-29.
