Attending the launching ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of several provincial departments and agencies; representatives of the leaders of Chieng Coi and To Hieu wards; the principals of schools in Chieng Coi ward; and a large number of students from Binh Minh International Primary, Secondary & High School.
In our province, more than 10,000 tons of plastic waste are generated annually. The highest amounts are in the wards of Tô Hiệu, Chiềng Cơi, Chiềng An, and Chiềng Sinh, each with over 3,000 tons per year; followed by Thảo Nguyên, Mộc Châu, Mộc Sơn, and Vân Sơn with over 2,000 tons per year. This situation demands increased awareness, behavioral change, and concrete actions from individuals and groups. The "Clean Up the World" campaign is not just about cleaning up and collecting waste, but also sends a powerful message: live in harmony with nature and act together for a sustainable future. This is also an opportunity to spread the spirit of "One good deed makes the world cleaner," transforming environmental awareness into a civilized and sustainable way of life.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, Comrade Nguyen Thanh Cong called on officials, civil servants, union members, youth, and people in the province to actively sort waste at source; utilize organic waste as fertilizer, reuse paper, plastic, and metal; and limit the use of single-use plastics and nylon bags. At the same time, he urged participation in environmental protection activities such as Green Sunday, general cleaning, collecting discarded batteries, and planting and caring for trees. Schools should spread the message of environmental protection through lectures, activities, extracurriculars, and social media, so that each student becomes a young environmental advocate.
During the program, students also learned about the origin and harmful effects of waste; how to sort waste at source and reduce single-use plastics; and participated in a recycled fashion show and a short play competition.
On this occasion, the organizing committee presented 9 waste sorting bins and 1 informational banner to Binh Minh International Primary, Secondary & High School, aiming to build a model for waste sorting at source.
