Lak District: Rewarding 10 collectives and 25 individuals with outstanding achievements in poverty reduction work

On October 18, the People's Committee of Lak district held a thematic conference to evaluate the results of implementing Directive No. 05-CT/TW (Directive 05) dated June 23, 2021 of the Secretariat on "Strengthening the Party's leadership in sustainable poverty reduction by 2030" and the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021-2025 in the district.

Implementing Directive 05 and the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction, local authorities have made efforts to implement programs and policies to concretize the goals of socio -economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction for the people, especially for ethnic minorities. Thanks to that, the rural appearance has improved a lot, infrastructure in ethnic minority areas has been innovated, the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved, the cultural identity of ethnic groups in the district has been preserved and promoted effectively.

Leaders of Lak District People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to individuals with outstanding achievements in poverty reduction work.

Up to now, 90% of communes in the district have asphalted or concreted roads to the commune center; 70% of villages and hamlets have hardened roads; 100% of communes meet national criteria on health ; 100% of communes have a network of kindergartens, primary schools, and community learning centers; 75% of households have access to clean water; small irrigation works meet 80% of irrigation needs for annual crop areas. The total production and business value of the whole district in 2020 was 2,359.5 billion VND, reaching 2,709 billion VND by 2022 (an increase of 349.5 billion VND); the average income per capita in 2020 was 29 million VND/person/year, and by the end of 2022 it was 32.3 million VND/person/year (an increase of 3.3 million VND). Regarding poverty reduction results, in 2020, the poverty rate of the whole district accounted for 27.39% of the population, and by the end of 2022 it will be 25.24%.

At the conference, delegates analyzed and pointed out the existing causes and limitations that have not been achieved in the implementation of sustainable poverty reduction work in the district. Specifically, the rate of poor and near-poor households in the district is still high, the quality of poverty reduction in the district is not really sustainable in the long term, and the risk of falling back into poverty is high. The work of inspecting and supervising the implementation of poverty reduction projects and policies by mass organizations and communities has not been strongly promoted and is still not regular; there is no initiative in mobilizing local resources to integrate into the program, but it is mainly implemented from state investment capital...

The conference discussed solutions to overcome existing problems to strive to achieve goals and targets in the coming time, determined to build Lak district into a strong and stably developing district.

On this occasion, the District People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the District People's Committee to 10 collectives and 25 individuals with outstanding achievements in implementing mid-term sustainable poverty reduction work, period 2021 - 2025.
