The Israeli military called the raid on Nasser Hospital "precise and limited." They said the raid was based on information indicating Hamas fighters were hiding and holding hostages in the facility. Hamas called this a lie.
Health officials in the Hamas-run Palestinian area said Israel forced dozens of staff, patients, and civilians to evacuate, and families of medical personnel sheltering in hospitals were also forced to leave. They said about 2,000 Palestinians arrived in the southern border city of Rafah overnight, while others headed north toward Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza.

In a new operation, the Israeli military said it carried out an airstrike that killed a Hamas commander who participated in the October 7 attack.
The medical charity Medicins San Frontieres said Israel shelled Nasser Hospital in the early hours, despite having informed medical staff and patients that they could stay.
The fighting at the hospital occurred as Israel faced increasing international pressure to show restraint, after declaring it would attack Rafah, the last relatively safe haven in Gaza.
Speaking about the hospital raid, Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said, "This sensitive operation was precisely prepared and was being carried out by IDF special forces who had undergone specific training."
Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said the hospital would run out of fuel within the next 24 hours, threatening the lives of patients, including six children in intensive care and three infants in the neonatal ward.
