(CLO) Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 86 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas was announced on Wednesday, according to the Gaza Civil Defense agency.
They added that more than 250 other people were injured in the Israeli attacks. The airstrikes occurred despite a ceasefire agreement announced on Wednesday after weeks of tense negotiations in Doha, Qatar.
Additionally, Israeli forces also attacked a facility where Hamas was holding an Israeli female hostage, who was to be exchanged in the first phase of a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, according to Abu Ubaida, spokesman for Hamas' armed wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
"After the ceasefire was announced, enemy forces attacked a facility holding a female hostage, whose name was on the list for the first phase of the exchange," he wrote on Telegram without specifying the woman's current status.

The first of three phases of the ceasefire is expected to take effect on Sunday, although it is still awaiting approval from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet. If the first phase is successful, the second phase will begin after 42 days, according to Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who announced the agreement in Doha.
On Thursday, Mr Netanyahu's office accused Hamas of trying to cancel parts of the deal. Hamas denied the accusation and said in a statement: "The organization is committed to implementing the ceasefire announced by the mediators."
Mediators hope this new ceasefire will chart a course to end more than 15 months of conflict in Gaza, which has devastated Palestinian territory and created a severe humanitarian crisis.
Gaza Health Ministry officials said on Thursday that at least 46,788 Palestinians have been killed and 110,453 injured in the strip since October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a terrorist attack on southern Israel.
Approximately 1,200 people in Israel were killed in the October 7 attack, with 253 others taken hostage. Following several hostage releases, Israeli officials said 94 people remain held captive in Gaza, including 34 who have been confirmed dead.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said more than 400 Israeli soldiers and security personnel have been killed in fighting inside the Gaza Strip, including nine deaths in the past week.
The Israel Defense Forces claim to have killed more than 15,000 Hamas fighters and other militants throughout the conflict. Hamas leaders Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and Mohammed Deif are among those killed since October 2023.
