Khanh Hoa: Proposal to recognize "Bird's Nest Festival" as a national intangible cultural heritage

VHO - Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has just sent a document to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposing to include the Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage, in order to contribute to preserving and promoting the unique cultural values of the festival associated with the history of this hundreds of years old profession.

The Bird's Nest Festival is a traditional cultural activity associated with the bird's nest exploitation profession with a history of more than 700 years in Khanh Hoa. The festival expresses gratitude to the ancestors and gods who have blessed the bird's nest workers, and prays for a favorable and peaceful exploitation season.

The Bird's Nest Festival is a traditional ritual associated with the hundreds of years of history of bird's nest exploitation in the coastal area of Khanh Hoa - known as "the land of Agarwood - the sea of Bird's Nest". The festival represents the worship of the profession's ancestors, gratitude to the guardian deities and prayers for a favorable harvest for bird's nest workers.

Over the centuries, the Festival not only has profound spiritual meaning but also contributes to connecting the community and preserving the beauty of local culture.

Nowadays, the Festival is also held with many rich activities such as: Traditional rituals, folk games, art performances, promoting bird's nest products to tourists...

Maintaining the Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest Festival not only has spiritual significance but also helps preserve the traditional culture of Khanh Hoa province; at the same time, it contributes to promoting tourism, developing the economy and affirming the Khanh Hoa Salanganes Nest brand - the pride of the land of "Agarwood - Swallow Sea".

Currently, the application dossier has been completed by Khanh Hoa province in accordance with regulations and sent to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for consideration, appraisal and recognition as a national intangible cultural heritage.
