Introducing this special project, Bui Yen Linh, Head of the Organizing Committee, said that on June 24, 2025, the Prime Minister signed a decision to merge three theaters including the Vietnam Tuong Theater, the Vietnam Cheo Theater, and the Vietnam Cai Luong Theater into a new unit - the Vietnam National Traditional Theater.
The merger of three theaters into one unified entity may bring challenges, but it also brings opportunities for development. To continue developing the art of tuong in the face of new challenges, the “Ha Hoi” project was launched with the mission of opening up new opportunities for traditional Vietnamese theater.
According to Bui Yen Linh, as a community-oriented project with the goal of preserving and promoting the quintessence of traditional Vietnamese theatrical art, “Ha Hoi” is especially oriented towards indigenous cultural values and artisan communities in localities - the main source of formation and nurturing of traditional cultural values from the beginning.
“Ha Hoi 2025” marks the first season focusing on the art of tuong – the oldest theatrical form in Vietnam. The project includes a series of activities carried out online on multiple platforms as well as offline, with the special launch of the documentary “Ha Hoi - Mong Ky Man Tuong”. The activities are built with the vision of both conveying the quintessence of the most scholarly theatrical form and providing a contemporary perspective on tuong in today's context.

The opening event is “The Next Chapter Talkshow” with the theme “When Tradition Touches a New Chapter” taking place at 2:00 p.m. on July 13, at Complex 01 ( Hanoi ), gathering famous guest artists such as former Deputy Director of Vietnam Tuong Theater Ta Van Sop, artists Thanh Phuong, Tuan Hiep.
The event is a space for dialogue between the preservers and the successors, veteran Tuong artists, young Tuong artists and young creatives. The talkshow promises to evoke cultural pride through a creative approach, combining modernizing traditional features and strengthening the connection between generations of artists and young audiences in the digital age.
Following this event, there will be many follow-up activities, such as the Summer Tour “River of Tuong” scheduled for August 16, in Bac Ninh ; the Summer Podcast “Reverie on Tuong” conducted online from September to December 2025; the Summer Movie “Mong ky man tuong” – “Reverie on River of Tuong” scheduled to be released in January 2026.
