In 2025, the Literature exam for the high school graduation exam is expected to effectively ensure the development of qualities and competencies outlined in the 2018 Literature curriculum and achieve a high level of differentiation.

Commenting on the 2025 high school graduation exam in Literature , Master Nguyen Phuoc Bao Khoi, a lecturer in Literature at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, said that the 2025 high school graduation exam questions are deeply rooted in real life, closely connected to the current situation of the country, both awakening a sense of appreciation for the past and inspiring a spirit of responsibility for the nation's transformations.

The Reading Comprehension section uses an excerpt from a short story by Nguyen Minh Chau – a prominent writer known for his narrative style imbued with philosophical insights. The theme and content of the text provide excellent material for students to explore, especially in the social commentary section.

The reading comprehension questions closely adhere to the required skills for reading short stories in the 2018 Literature curriculum, addressing elements such as narrative perspective, key details, thematic content, and some distinctive artistic features. Question 5 is not only well-designed but also fulfills the requirement of comparing literary texts, a common type of question in grade 12.

The literary analysis section of the exam required students to analyze Lê's feelings for Sơn. Essentially, this requirement linked to a specific manifestation of the character's emotional world , helping readers understand the character better, fulfilling the need for a focused essay on a particular issue, and providing evidence from the reading comprehension section. "That's the subtle 'escape route' the exam setters provided to the students," said Mr. Khôi.

Regarding the social commentary essay section, Mr. Khoi believes that the exam question evoked a profound understanding of the meaning of not differentiating between homeland and country, between the land of one's homeland and the territorial integrity of the nation, and between love of homeland and patriotism. The exam's differentiating nature also focused on this content, as it was not easy to identify the central and supporting arguments. Nevertheless, if students adhered closely to the text and made good use of the answers to reading comprehension question 5, they could easily "pass the test".
