Auditor requires selling tickets to Vietnamese tourists as Western tourists at My Son Temple Complex?

Asking for opinions on the roadmap for increasing ticket prices to visit My Son Temple Complex at the discussion on the afternoon of September 26, a representative of the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board affirmed that adjusting ticket prices is a mandatory requirement from the audit.

"Ticket adjustment is an issue of concern to many units. Recently, the audit requested an adjustment to apply a common ticket price for both domestic and international visitors," said Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet - Deputy Director in charge of the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board.

My Son has not adjusted entrance tickets for the past 10 years.

Ms. Van Thi Cam Tu, Deputy Director of the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board, said that My Son has been a world cultural heritage since 1999. Although far from the center of Da Nang City, My Son currently receives an average of about 1,500 visitors per day (equivalent to 450,000 visitors per year), with a growth rate of more than 10% per year.

Since the beginning of 2025, My Son has achieved a revenue of more than 57 billion VND. However, Ms. Tu believes that the current ticket price does not fully reflect the value and limits resources for preserving and promoting heritage values. My Son still does not have many night-time products, and investment resources for promotion and communication activities are limited.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet said that for the past 10 years, the entrance ticket to My Son has remained the same: "The entrance ticket price to My Son currently includes the entrance fee (applied to both domestic and international visitors) of 40,000 VND/person; the service price in the ticket for Vietnamese visitors is 60,000 VND/person, and for foreign visitors is 110,000 VND/person).

"Audit request"

After 10 years of implementing ticket prices, Mr. Khiet said that economic conditions have changed, costs for activities including management, restoration and conservation of relics, etc. have also fluctuated, leading to product quality being affected.

Despite many difficulties, the Management Board of My Son World Cultural Heritage still focuses on conservation and diversifying activities to better serve the needs of visitors. Currently, My Son is maintaining many products such as Cultural products of the temple area, experience the heritage landscape, Cham dance programs and support services.

"The visit time was about 1 hour 10 years ago, but now it has increased to over 2 hours. The Board has also preserved 1,158 hectares of forest; renovated and replanted new ones, arranged paths, increased check-in points at the entrances to relics, museum spaces, internal roads..." - Mr. Khiet said.

10 years ago, there were only 3 performances per day, but now there are 7 performances per day. Cham dance has gradually become an important product and a unique brand of My Son.

My Son is also testing two new products that are highly appreciated by tourists: Cham folk singing and community performance of Bai Choi in the heritage area.

In addition to 15 electric cars to transport tourists, My Son also added specialized rooms, a room to manage national treasures; invested in infrastructure for restrooms, internal roads, etc.

Explaining the upcoming adjustment of entrance tickets, Mr. Khiet affirmed that My Son needs more resources to invest in restoration, making the destination more attractive.

However, the key point is that recently, the auditing agency requested to adjust the entrance ticket price to be equal between Vietnamese and international visitors.

"We want to make adjustments but also have concerns and worries. Adjustments will be mandatory, My Son will certainly have better resources to invest in more attractiveness for guests.

However, the roadmap, implementation, and specific adjustment levels need to be consulted by all parties. The adjustment level will also be decided by the competent authorities," said Mr. Khiet.

My Son still has weak products

The seminar "Solutions to attract tourists to My Son World Cultural Heritage" was organized by the My Son World Cultural Heritage Management Board on the afternoon of September 26, attracting about 50 businesses and government representatives.

At the seminar, many tourism businesses said that the attraction of My Son is very great, as a destination to learn about history and heritage.

However, the number of visitors is still low, and the entrance fee does not truly reflect the scale and value of a UNESCO heritage site. My Son also does not have many truly attractive products to make visitors stay longer and spend more money...
