Inspecting forest fire prevention and fighting work in An Minh and Van Khanh communes

The delegation inspected the field work of forest fire prevention and fighting in the protective forest area of sub-region 32 and sub-region 34 in Van Khanh and An Minh communes.

According to the An Giang Provincial Forest Management Board, Region I, the total area of protective Melaleuca forests in the two communes of An Minh and Van Khanh is 2,826.49 hectares, divided into 3 sub-areas, including: Sub-area 32, Sub-area 33 and Sub-area 34.

To carry out the work of forest management, protection and forest fire prevention and fighting in the dry season of 2025, Forest Protection Management Station No. 3, Forest Protection Department Region 6 coordinated to organize 267 forest protection patrols and inspections. Thereby, 12 violations of forests and coastal protection forest land were detected and handled, and transferred to competent authorities for handling according to regulations.

Forest fire prevention and fighting work has been proactively carried out since the beginning of the year. To prepare for forest fire prevention and fighting in the dry season of 2026, Forest Protection Management Station No. 3 under the An Giang Provincial Forest Management Board, Region I, has reviewed and consulted on the construction of estimates for important items in forest fire prevention and fighting; organized the construction of 5 water-retaining dams in sub-region 34, and repaired and maintained fire prevention and fighting equipment.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang province Nguyen Duc Duy emphasized that the peak of the hot season in the dry season of 2026 in March, April and May has a high risk of forest fires; he requested localities to closely coordinate with the Forest Protection Department and Forest Management Station No. 3 to continue to strengthen propaganda work and guide households to implement measures to prevent and fight forest fires.

Comrade Nguyen Duc Duy proposed that the People's Committees of An Minh and Van Khanh communes soon establish a Steering Committee for forest fire prevention and fighting to set up forest fire prevention and fighting teams.
