The Russian Ministry of Defense stated on September 29 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces (VSU) suffered heavy losses in the counterattack, and although this was not acknowledged by Kyiv, it was not the first time several VSU brigades had been withdrawn to the rear to restore combat effectiveness.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the VSU General Staff was forced to withdraw the 47th Motorized Infantry Brigade, which was participating in the offensive in the Orekhovsky area, to the rear for the third time due to heavy losses and soldiers refusing to fight.
Over the past few weeks, the brigade has been actively operating in the Rabotino-Verbovoe direction in Zaporizhzhia province. Currently, almost all VSU brigades deployed for the Zaporizhzhia offensive have been withdrawn to the rear for reinforcements. These include the 82nd Air Assault Brigade, the 46th Airborne Brigade, and even the 71st Light Infantry Brigade, which had only been in action a few weeks prior.
Meanwhile, on the same day, September 29, the Russian military website stated that recorded videos showed significant losses to the VSU in the Verbovoy area of Zaporizhzhia province.
According to preliminary information, more than 40 Ukrainian armored vehicles were destroyed in the area shown in the video , notably including British Challenger 2 main battle tanks. Such losses suggest that almost an entire VSU battalion may have been rendered inoperable on this front.
Earlier, on September 29, RIA Novosti, citing sources, reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had agreed with the United States and the United Kingdom on a new offensive by the VSU. The offensive would take place in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia directions, tentatively scheduled for early October.
