Swimmer Huy Hoang meets A standard, wins a spot at the 2024 Olympics

Nguyen Huy Hoang qualified for the 2024 Olympics after achieving the A standard. The swimmer, born in 2000, achieved this feat by finishing third in the 800-meter freestyle final at the 19th Asian Games (Hangzhou, China).

Nguyen Huy Hoang won a Bronze Medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation. The two first-place finishers were Kim Woo-min (South Korea, 7 minutes 46 seconds 03) and Fei Liwei (China, 9 minutes 49 seconds 90). Huy Hoang's time was 7 minutes 51 seconds 44, exceeding the A qualifying standard of 7 minutes 51 seconds 65.

Nguyen Huy Hoang is the third Vietnamese athlete to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Previously, shooter Hoang Thu Vinh achieved this feat at the 2023 World Shooting Championships in Azerbaijan, and cyclist Nguyen Thi That secured a spot at next year's world championships after winning the 2023 Asian Championships.

Nguyen Huy Hoang was delighted to successfully defend his bronze medal in the 800-meter freestyle. Previously, on September 26th, the swimmer from Quang Binh province did not win a medal in the 1,500-meter freestyle, the same event in which he won a silver medal at the 18th Asian Games.

" I gradually regained my competitive feeling compared to the first day. In the 1,500 meters, I was a little nervous and not mentally stable. However, today, things were different. My goal was to win a medal. I am very happy with this medal because the ASIAD only takes place every four years ," Huy Hoang shared.

As of 8 PM on September 28th, the Vietnamese sports delegation had won 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals, and 11 Bronze Medals. In the coming days, several key sports in which Vietnam hopes to win Gold Medals, such as sepak takraw and karate, will begin their competitions.
