The Commemorative Speech presented by Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Dat, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Commander of Military Region 9, said that in 80 years on the historical journey, advancing under the glorious flag of the Fatherland, the Military Region 9's armed forces have overcome all difficulties, hardships, sacrifices, fought, won and developed in the land of Nine Dragons, writing an immortal epic of revolutionary heroism; building the tradition of "Solidarity of the army and people, steadfastness, self-reliance, bravery in fighting", becoming the flesh and blood, the guiding ideology, throughout all activities of the Military Region's armed forces.
The birth of the Military Region's Armed Forces was the inevitable result of the large-scale revolutionary struggle movement throughout the South, especially after the 1940 Southern Uprising and the 1945 August Revolution. Implementing the Central Party's policy of resistance and national construction, on December 10, 1945, the Southern Regional Party Committee held an expanded conference in Binh Hoa Nam commune, Duc Hoa district, Long An province (now Duc Hue commune, Tay Ninh province) and decided to establish War Zone 8 and War Zone 9 (the predecessor of today's Military Zone 9). Since that historical milestone, December 10 every year has become the traditional day of the Military Region 9.
Throughout the 80 years of construction, fighting, winning and growing up, from the first established units to the birth of the main units of Military Region 9 today, the Military Region's armed forces have always been united, closely connected with the people, overcoming countless hardships and sacrifices, bravely fighting and winning, together writing the glorious golden pages of history of the nation. From the flames of war, this place - the Southwest region of the Fatherland - has forged, tempered and produced generations of steadfast, indomitable revolutionary cadres and soldiers, making great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party.
Faced with the requirements of the revolution in the new period, on November 11, 1976, Military Region 8 and Military Region 9 merged into Military Region 9. From here, the Military Region's armed forces, together with the people of the Mekong Delta, embarked on the task of healing the wounds of war and building the country. Resolutely protecting every inch of sacred land, fighting and winning the war to protect the southwestern border of the Fatherland.
Entering a new stage of construction and development, the Military Region 9's armed forces have always been a political force, an absolutely loyal fighting force of the Party, the State and the People, excellently fulfilling their functions and tasks; building a national defense associated with the people's security posture, building a solid defense zone, implementing well national defense diplomacy; maintaining political stability, social order and safety, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development in the Mekong Delta. As a revolutionary army, always closely attached to the people, the Military Region's armed forces have always been proactive and active with other forces in participating in natural disaster prevention and control, rescue, and epidemic prevention; doing a good job in policy work, repaying gratitude, and beautifying the noble image of Uncle Ho's soldiers - the soldiers of the Western region in the hearts of the people.
With a long history and successive achievements over the years, the Military Region 9's armed forces have been honored by the Party and State with 3 Gold Star Orders, 5 Ho Chi Minh Orders, 3 Independence Orders of First, Second and Third Class; 30 Military Exploit Orders of First, Second and Third Class; 01 Fatherland Protection Order of First Class and many other noble awards. In particular, the Military Region's armed forces have just been awarded the title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces by the State. This demonstrates the recognition of the great contributions of the Military Region's armed forces to the revolutionary cause, forever worthy of the trust of the Party, State and People.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Dat also said that in the coming years, the world and regional situation is forecast to have rapid, complicated and unpredictable developments with traditional and non-traditional security challenges. The task of building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite and modern Military Region's armed forces always poses increasingly new requirements.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Dat also affirmed that, promoting the glorious tradition, before the Party, State and People, the Military Region 9's Armed Forces are determined to regularly and thoroughly grasp the Party's military and defense guidelines and viewpoints; the content and tasks of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation; maintain and strengthen the Party's absolute and direct leadership in all aspects; successfully implement the resolutions of Party congresses at all levels; especially seriously implement the direction of "2 steadfastness, 2 promotion and 2 prevention" in the Military Party Committee directed by the General Secretary and Secretary of the Central Military Commission.
At the same time, proactively coordinate with forces and localities, grasp and accurately forecast the situation, promptly advise on strategies with the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense. Build a national defense foundation associated with a strong people's security posture; a solid defense zone. Fight to defeat the plots and tricks of hostile forces. Improve the overall quality and combat strength of the Military Region's armed forces. Be ready to fight and fight victoriously in all conditions and situations.
Regularly consolidate and strengthen the relationship of solidarity between the army and the people, build a solid people's heart and mind position. Do a good job of policy work, repay gratitude. Actively participate in social security activities in the area. Be ready to participate in helping people prevent and overcome the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics with the spirit of selflessness for the people.
The Military Region continues to perform well its foreign affairs tasks with the Royal Army units and localities of the Kingdom of Cambodia. Contributing to building and maintaining the southwestern border and the southernmost sea of the Fatherland in peace, friendship, stability, and cooperation for mutual development for the benefit of the people of the two countries.
Lieutenant General Nguyen Xuan Dat stated that, reviewing the glorious tradition of 80 years of building, fighting, winning and growing, the generation of officers and soldiers of Military Region 9 today vows to promote the heroic revolutionary tradition, solidarity and unity, excellently complete all tasks, establish new feats; build a clean and strong Party organization; a "Revolutionary, disciplined, elite, modern" Military Region, firmly protect the independence, sovereignty, unity and sacred territorial integrity of the Fatherland, contributing to realizing the aspiration to build a civilized, powerful and prosperous Vietnam in the new era./.
