While many places are temporarily closed for the National Day holiday on September 2, the dormitory of Ho Chi Minh City National University is still open to welcome new students from all over the country to move in and prepare for the new school year.
Unexpectedly, the dormitory works during the holidays and accepts people as usual.
Not only operating normally, the dormitory also becomes a warm support with the dedication of staff working through the holidays and the enthusiasm of student volunteers.
From early morning, the dormitory’s B area was bustling with the sound of vehicles, laughter, and the calls of new friends. The hallways of the dormitory buildings were packed with suitcases, backpacks, and eager and anxious eyes, an unforgettable start for the new students and their families.
Many families from the Central and Northern provinces have traveled hundreds, even thousands of kilometers to bring their children to Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the new school year.
Ms. Tran Thi Luyen ( Nam Dinh ), mother of a new student at the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), shared that this was the first time her son left his hometown to go to Ho Chi Minh City to study, so the family could not help but feel restless and worried.
Although her job as a teacher is busy as the new school year approaches, she still takes the time to arrange everything to go to Ho Chi Minh City with her child to complete the admission procedures, hoping to accompany and motivate her child in his first steps in life.
"I thought the dormitory would be closed on such a big holiday, but unexpectedly it still accepts students as usual, and there are even student volunteers who support thoughtfully. I was so happy I cried!", Ms. Luyen was moved.
"Feel much more secure"
For many students leaving home for the first time, being well received by the dormitory during the holidays helps to ease their anxiety and confusion.
Phan Huong Giang (Da Nang), a new student at the University of Health Sciences (National University), was moved: "At first I was worried because I arrived on a holiday, afraid that no one would accept me, but when I arrived, everyone supported me wholeheartedly, I felt much more secure. I hope to adapt to the new environment soon and try to study well."
Not only is the dormitory open during the holidays, it also increases its staff on duty continuously, without lunch breaks, and coordinates with volunteer student teams to ensure the reception process goes smoothly and safely.
The atmosphere in buildings B2, E3, C5... is bustling with laughter and calls from new friends. In addition to the check-in procedure, new students are also guided by dormitory staff and volunteer students to visit and introduce the facilities in the dormitory such as the canteen, dining hall, self-study room and taken to their rooms.

No days off when students need it
According to the Center for Dormitory and Urban Area Management of Ho Chi Minh City National University, to support new students and their parents to feel secure when moving in during the holidays, the unit has arranged staff to be on duty during the holidays, increased student volunteers and prepared facilities.
The entire process from check-in instructions, room check-in to living support is carried out methodically and thoughtfully as usual, without making any new students wait or worry.
MSc. Tang Huu Thuy, director of the center, said: "In particular, this year, the admission of students to the dormitory has agreed to use the university entrance exam results and after the candidates confirm their admission on the general admission portal of the Ministry of Education and Training as the basis for registering to stay in the dormitory.
We recognize that this is an important time for new students. Even though it is a holiday, the dormitory is still operating normally so that no one has to wait, no one has to worry about not having a place to stay."
In addition, hundreds of student volunteers were present very early, with friendly smiles, ready to help carry luggage, guide procedures, and even take new students on a tour of the dormitory campus.
Free buses and metro warm parents' hearts
A notable highlight on this occasion is that many bus routes connecting to the Ho Chi Minh City National University area are still operating continuously during the holiday, especially with a policy of free tickets for new students and parents when coming to the dormitory.
According to Tuoi Tre's observations, bus routes 8, 99, 50, 33, 19... passing through the urban area of Ho Chi Minh City National University operated continuously on September 1 and 2.
On September 2, people using metro line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) only need to use their citizen ID card with chip to scan at the gate to get free tickets.
Therefore, it is very convenient for new students and parents to travel to the dormitory and visit the entire Ho Chi Minh City National University urban area.
Ms. Thu Tam, a parent from Da Nang, shared: "My family took bus number 8 from Mien Dong bus station to the dormitory. Hearing the announcement that it was free for all new passengers, I was surprised and touched. Just a small detail but it warmed my heart amidst the initial confusion."
