Lao Cai: Attracting "green" investment - The direction for sustainable development

How to develop strong industry while still maintaining the green color of the mountains and forests, the unique cultural identity and happiness for the people? That is the big question that many localities are looking for an answer. In Lao Cai, the answer is increasingly evident through the policy of selectively attracting investment, prioritizing high-tech and friendly projects.

At Au Lau industrial cluster these days, the working atmosphere is very urgent. The sound of machines is contributing to the construction of the 3rd food processing factory of Cuong Thuy Food Processing and Import-Export Joint Stock Company.

This is a closed-loop project, with an expected capacity of up to 30 tons of finished products per day. More importantly, when operational, the factory will create jobs for about 600 local workers.

A site is being leveled for project investment in Au Lau ward, Lao Cai province.

Mr. Vu Tuan Anh - Transport Director of Cuong Thuy Group affirmed: "We came here with the desire to pioneer in building a processing factory with green and clean technology. The factory and workshop lines all follow European standards."

The story of Cuong Thuy Group is not an isolated case. This is a testament to a consistent strategy of the local government. Au Lau Ward, with advantages in waterways, roads and railways, is prioritizing high-tech projects for sustainable development.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Au Lau Ward, Lao Cai Province, affirmed: "For investment projects in our area, we also choose investors with green, environmentally friendly projects. How to develop industry while ensuring the environment."

And the results of this orientation are very remarkable. Up to now, Lao Cai province has nearly 1,500 valid projects with a total registered capital of over 945 trillion VND. But the number is not everything, the bright spot lies in the quality "filter" that Lao Cai has set: prioritizing energy-saving projects, advanced environmental treatment technology, especially projects with high knowledge content.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Pham Trung Lan - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Lao Cai province added: "We are moving to the stage of selecting investors. The requirement is that investment projects in industrial parks and clusters must have a reasonable investment level, with advanced machinery, equipment and technology applications, saving resources and protecting the environment".

It can be seen that Lao Cai is not rolling out the red carpet in a massive way, but is carefully "weaving" a sustainable green carpet. By focusing on quality and sustainability, Lao Cai is gradually affirming its position as a safe and attractive investment destination, aiming to become a green industrial growth pole of the region and the whole country.
