An inevitable trend

On July 26, 2022, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 896 approving the National Strategy on Climate Change for the period up to 2050, aiming to proactively and effectively adapt to and reduce vulnerability, losses, and damages caused by climate change; and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Vietnam wants to make a positive and responsible contribution to the international community in protecting the Earth's climate system; and to seize opportunities from climate change response to shift its growth model and enhance the resilience and competitiveness of its economy .

According to Decision 896, total carbon emissions from the main emission sectors—energy, agriculture , waste, and industrial production processes—are only about 185 million tons of CO2, balancing the carbon absorption achieved from forestry and land use.

Driven by the need for sustainable development, Quang Nam province has for many years rejected investors who disregard environmental protection and use outdated technologies; instead, it has welcomed businesses that prioritize production with new, modern technologies, increase labor productivity while simultaneously improving the environment, adapting to climate change, and especially adopting a circular economy model.

According to Mr. Le Vu Thuong, Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, in the industrial sector alone, the province plans to relocate production to industrial zones and clusters. Investment projects in industries with potential environmental pollution risks or those involving labor-intensive processing are restricted.

Quang Nam continues to improve the quality of environmental impact assessment reports, ensuring that 100% of newly invested industrial projects are located in accordance with planning and have wastewater treatment systems that meet standards.

Business movements

In the Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc Industrial Park (Dien Ban town), Quoc Quang Vietnam Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. focuses on green and sustainable production, ensuring social responsibility. This company applies green production processes that save energy and are environmentally friendly.

Mr. Bang Hao Van, General Director of Quoc Quang Vietnam Electric Company Limited, stated that the company's development strategy is to reduce emissions, save energy, improve energy and raw material efficiency, reduce operating costs, and alleviate customer concerns about greenhouse gas emissions.

"Our business practices are focused on cleaner production, saying no to harmful substances, controlling quality at the source, reducing pollution, and minimizing energy consumption. The principle that production, trade, environmental protection, and sustainable development are inseparable has helped our products compete better in the market," Mr. Van said.

In the Ha Lam - Cho Duoc Industrial Cluster (Thang Binh district), Phu Toan Quang Nam Production & Trading Co., Ltd. focuses on green production. The company's production of medical equipment, face masks, alcohol, salt, disinfectants, etc., utilizes a closed-loop technology, thoroughly treating waste and wastewater, using solar energy, and minimizing emissions. The company owns a modern, highly automated production line that meets ISO standards.

Mr. Ho Khanh Toan, Director of Phu Toan Quang Nam Production & Trading Co., Ltd., said that the shift to green production creates a growth impetus for businesses, attracts new customers, enhances competitiveness, and especially helps access demanding markets.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thong, Director of the Thang Binh Industrial and Service Development Center, said that there are many industrial clusters in the area, so the center advises the District People's Committee to attract many businesses to invest in industrial production.

The requirement is that businesses have a proper understanding of the benefits and responsibilities of green production. Products that meet green and sustainable standards will be elevated in status, better recognized, and sold at higher prices.

The good news is that, starting from planning and investment orientation in production clusters with modern technology and green industries, the business community in the area has now formed a green industrial ecosystem, a circular economy, clean production, environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, and promotion of sustainable industrial development.
