On July 30, in Rach Gia Ward, An Giang Provincial People's Committee coordinated with the Institute of Monuments Conservation (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) to organize an international scientific conference with the theme "Consultation on outstanding global values and criteria for nominating world heritage for the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site".
The workshop was attended by about 50 delegates including domestic and international experts, managers, scientists, central agencies and An Giang province.

According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong, the workshop is of great significance to the process of building a dossier to nominate the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site to submit to the United Nations Educational , Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for inclusion in the list of world cultural heritage.
Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site (located in Oc Eo commune, An Giang) is a large-scale complex of religious architectural relics, densely concentrated with unique archaeological relics in the South; archaeological traces have outlined the appearance of a large religious center, with a very unique cultural life of the ancient urban residents of Oc Eo in history.

At the workshop, delegates and scientists clarified the basic contents of the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site on 3 groups of issues, including: Evaluating the level of existing documents, adding research results to the nomination dossier; Proposing the expected criteria that the dossier meets, unifying the core story that creates the value of the nominated heritage site; Clearly identifying the global value of the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site to submit to UNESCO for inclusion in the list of world cultural heritage, as a basis for preserving and promoting values associated with sustainable economic and tourism development in the locality.
Mr. Le Trung Ho, Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee, said that An Giang is focusing on implementing the final steps of the procedures to prepare the nomination dossier for the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site and the heritage management plan, striving to submit the draft nomination dossier before September 30, 2025; and submit the official nomination dossier to the World Heritage Center before February 1, 2026.

The Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological site is ranked as a special national monument. In 2021, the Prime Minister approved the Plan for preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of the Oc Eo - Ba The special national monument.
In 2022, the World Heritage Center included this relic site in the list of expected world cultural heritage dossiers. To date, phase 1 of the dossier has been completed and An Giang province is striving to complete the dossier to nominate the Oc Eo - Ba The archaeological relic site for UNESCO to recognize as a world cultural heritage site in 2027.
Oc Eo culture is an ancient culture formed and developed in the Southern region, from the 1st to the 7th century AD, named in 1944 by French scholar Louis Malleret. His name was given to an archaeological site first excavated by Louis Malleret in the field east of Ba The mountain. This is a major culture in the history of Vietnam, closely associated with the country and people in the lower Mekong Delta and closely related to the history of ancient Southeast Asia.
