The singer who sang the most out of tune at the SEA Games opening ceremony at Rajamangala Stadium last night was Belgian-Thai singer Violette Wautier, known by her stage name “V”. She is the singer that Thai audiences have been waiting for the most.

“Drama at the opening ceremony, Violette herself admitted that she had problems lip-syncing. “V” said it would have been better if she had sung live,” Matichon reported.

“Violette Wautier “V”’s performance at the Rajamangala National Stadium, along with singers Golf F Hero and Tong Twopee, had sound problems. This incident caused “V” to admit that she could only show 1% of her ability,” Matichon added.

According to information from the Thai media, for those sitting directly at Rajamangala Stadium, they would have had difficulty detecting this "tone" deviation. But for the audience watching on television, they realized that the singer was not singing for real.

The incident caused a strong reaction from the Thai public. Last night, the singers involved posted explanations on social media, clearly stating the reason why they were forced to lip-sync at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games.

Leading Thai daily Thairath reported: “Violette Wautier “V” posted an article explaining why her singing voice was not good when she performed at the 33rd SEA Games opening ceremony. She said that many people may have noticed her extremely off-key singing voice during the live broadcast of the Southeast Asian Games opening ceremony.”

“This singer said that due to technical reasons, she and rappers Golf F. Hero and Tong Twopee were asked by the Organizing Committee to lip-sync before the incident happened,” Thairath added.

Meanwhile, another singer performing at the opening ceremony, rapper Golf F. Hero, explained that during the artists' performances, the artists' headphones were turned off, making it impossible for them to hear their own singing, while the microphones were still on. This meant they did not have the "input", but were still forced to show the "output". That was the reason why the singers sang off-key.

Thairath newspaper quoted rapper Golf F. Hero: “Honestly, I feel like my reputation, image, dignity, career and even my dreams have been ruined. “V” too, throughout her career, “V” has never lip-synced.

I don’t want to blame anyone, but give us a chance to defend ourselves. If we have a chance to sing live, even if we sing poorly, that is still our true ability. Unfortunately, we don’t even have that chance,” Golf F. Hero added, as quoted by Thairath.

Also at the opening ceremony of the 33rd SEA Games last night, there were other major errors. First, the media everywhere is strongly reacting to the Organizing Committee displaying a map of Vietnam, but missing the two archipelagos of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa of Vietnam.

Not only that, the introduction of the host country of SEA Games 19 in 1997 was Indonesia, but the Organizing Committee displayed the Singaporean flag.
