In 2024, the Gifted High School held its 10th grade entrance exam on May 25-26 to select 595 students.
According to an announcement today, the High School for the Gifted, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, stated that the enrollment quota remains the same as last year, but the number of students in each class group has been adjusted.
The school is recruiting 7 specialized classes at its District 5 campus, including Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, and Literature, a decrease of 3 compared to last year. Meanwhile, the number of interdisciplinary specialized classes in Thu Duc City has increased from 7 to 10: two classes each for Mathematics, Literature, and English, with one for each of the remaining subjects. The number of students per class will not exceed 35.
The school stated that the learning outcomes in its specialized classes emphasize the development of academic competence . Students are given early access to in-depth specialized knowledge at the high school and university levels, guiding them towards developing their talents in cutting-edge scientific fields at higher levels of education.
Interdisciplinary specialized courses, on the other hand, focus on developing interdisciplinary thinking skills through professional experience, guiding talent development into various fields of socio -economic life.
Candidates must take four compulsory exams. Mathematics, Literature, and English are the three common subjects, taking place on May 25th; while the specialized subjects are tested on May 26th. Candidates can register for a maximum of two specialized subjects, provided the exam schedules do not overlap.
Candidates applying to a specialized class will take the exam for that specialized subject, except for the specialized Mathematics exam, which may be used for admission to additional specialized classes in Physics and Informatics; and interdisciplinary classes in Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
The admission score for 10th grade at the High School for the Gifted is the sum of the scores from four exams, with the specialized subject weighted twice. For specialized classes that accept two subject combinations, the school will determine the admission score for each combination based on the exam results and the number of applications.
The High School for the Gifted will open registration from May 2nd to 5 PM on May 9th. The exam fee is 150,000 VND per subject and 50,000 VND per nguyện vọng (preference). Candidates will pay the fee through the online registration system; bank transfers are not accepted.
The tuition fee for the Gifted High School for the 2024-2025 school year is 1.5 million VND/month for specialized classes and 2.65 million VND/month for interdisciplinary specialized classes, including boarding costs.

The High School for the Gifted, established in 1996, is a specialized school directly under the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City. It is the only school in Ho Chi Minh City that organizes its own entrance exam, independent of the 10th grade entrance exam administered by the Department of Education and Training.
Last year, the school received nearly 3,100 applications for the 10th grade entrance exam, resulting in a competition ratio of 1 in 5.1 - the highest in the last 5 years. The cutoff scores ranged from approximately 22.5-28.5 for interdisciplinary specialized classes and 22.5-33 for specialized classes.
