Reason for temporarily suspending the Cham Ethnic Cultural Festival in Ninh Thuan

On December 16, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province announced that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued a document on temporarily suspending the organization of the 6th Cham Ethnic Cultural Festival in 2024 in Ninh Thuan province.

Previously, in March 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision on organizing the 6th Cham ethnic cultural festival in Ninh Thuan province. On that basis, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, together with the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province, presided over and coordinated with localities to make careful and elaborate preparations; at the same time, mobilized actors, artisans, and mass athletes of the Cham ethnic group to actively practice and prepare for the festival.

The People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province has issued a document requesting to stop organizing the 6th Cham Ethnic Cultural Festival in Ninh Thuan province in 2024.

However, on December 11, the People's Committee of Ninh Thuan province issued a document requesting to stop the organization due to the actual situation in the locality. Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism agreed and decided to stop organizing the 6th Cham Ethnic Cultural Festival in Ninh Thuan province. The Ministry will coordinate with Ninh Thuan to organize the festival at an appropriate time.

On November 20, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the summons of units and localities to participate in the 6th Cham Ethnic Cultural Festival in Ninh Thuan province, 2024.

A leader of the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee said that the reason for the proposal to stop organizing the festival is because localities have a lot of work at the end of the year; at the same time, focusing on streamlining the apparatus according to Resolution 18 of the Central Committee. Moreover, it is expected that April 2025 - the occasion of the Cham people's Ramuwan Festival - will be held, which is appropriate.

Previously, on November 20, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the call for units and localities to participate in the 6th Cham Cultural Festival in Ninh Thuan province in 2024. Accordingly, the festival will be held from December 19 to 22 with the participation of 9 provinces and cities including: Ninh Thuan, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Binh Thuan , An Giang, Tay Ninh, Quang Nam, Da Nang City and Ho Chi Minh City. The festival will include cultural activities such as opening and closing ceremonies, mass art festivals and performances of Cham ethnic costumes, exhibition spaces for local products and cuisine, demonstrations of traditional crafts and Cham cultural rituals, and sports activities.
