The seaport will have 60 wharves, from 117 to 123 main wharves with a total length of 28,948m to 30,823m. The land and water areas are determined in accordance with the scale of the port and meet the needs of goods throughput.

Vision to 2050, continue to develop new ports to meet the demand for goods with an average growth rate of about 3.5%/year to 3.8%/year. Cai Mep Ha port has an expected scale of 17 wharfs; Cai Mep Ha downstream port has an expected scale of 33 wharfs to meet the growing demand for goods.

According to the plan, priority investment projects include: Investment in expanding the "S" curve of Cai Mep - Thi Vai channel, along with infrastructure serving maritime safety assurance such as: anchorage, storm shelters, maritime monitoring and coordination system (VTS); Investment in building public service wharves, facilities serving specialized State management tasks.

At the same time, prioritize investment in ports in Cai Mep Ha area, Vung Tau international passenger port and other ports according to planning.

Vung Tau International Passenger Port is planned to have 1 berth, including 2 wharves with a total length of 840m, meeting the passenger volume of 1.39-1.5 million passengers. The port can receive ships with a capacity of up to 225,000 GT.

Total land use demand according to the planning until 2030 is about 1,931.3 hectares (not including areas for developing industrial parks, logistics... associated with ports). Total water surface use demand is about 68,923 hectares (including other water areas within the management scope without maritime works).

By 2030, the investment capital demand for the Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport system will be about VND 81,841 billion, including investment capital for public maritime infrastructure of about VND 5,131 billion and investment capital demand for ports of about VND 76,710 billion (including only ports providing cargo handling services).

Public maritime infrastructure is planned to develop synchronously with the scale of the port, the investment roadmap depends on resources and needs.

In which, upgrading and renovating the maritime routes: Vung Tau - Thi Vai route from buoy number "0" to Cai Mep container port area, including the route section from buoy number "0" to the upstream of Cai Mep international container port (CMIT) for ships up to 200,000 tons/18,000 TEU reduced load or larger; the route section from the upstream of Cai Mep international container port (CMIT) to the upstream of Tan Cang Cai Mep container port (TCIT and TCCT) for ships up to 160,000 tons reduced load or larger.

In addition, the channel section at the "S" curve, from upstream of Tan Cang Cai Mep container port (TCIT and TCCT) to Phuoc An launching port will be upgraded for ships of 60,000 tons fully loaded or larger; the channel section from Phuoc An port to Go Dau port on Thi Vai river for ships of 30,000 tons fully loaded.

At the same time, research and invest in building the Vung Tau - Thi Vai route into a 2-lane route to receive ships with a capacity of up to 250,000 tons/24,000 TEU, in accordance with the development process of downstream ports.

Investing in the construction of infrastructure to serve the work of ensuring maritime safety and specialized State management of maritime in seaport areas. In case of mobilizing social resources, investment in maritime routes in accordance with the scale of port planning is allowed.
