(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The discount offered on the Honda CBR150R at private motorcycle dealerships in the last month of 2024 reached up to 30% of the vehicle's value, the actual purchase price equivalent to a scooter model like the Vario 160.
The year-end shopping season and the period leading up to the Lunar New Year are not only the annual peak periods for the automotive market, but the "playing field" for two-wheeled vehicles is also vibrant. Dealers take advantage of high consumer demand, launching large promotions to stimulate sales of less popular products, such as the Honda CBR150R.
According to an investigation by a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper, many authorized dealerships are offering a 5 million VND discount on registration fees for this small-displacement motorcycle model. However, at private motorcycle shops, the price is significantly lower than the suggested retail price of 72.3-73.8 million VND.
A private dealership in Hanoi is offering a 2023 CBR150R (VIN 2023) for 49.5 million VND, which is nearly 23 million VND lower than the listed price. This actual selling price is comparable to a scooter model like the Honda Vario 160 (starting from 51.99 million VND).
Meanwhile, at another private motorcycle dealership, the 2024 Honda CBR150R VIN is being offered at 57 million VND, still about 16 million VND cheaper than the listed price.

Experts explain that private motorcycle dealerships, in addition to purchasing used models, also import some new models from manufacturers to diversify their product range. However, the Honda CBR150R is not very popular, leading to a large surplus of vehicles at these dealerships, forcing them to sell them at a loss in the last month of the year.
According to several sales consultants working at authorized Honda dealerships, the CBR150R is not a best-selling product. Its aggressive design and high price mean customers tend to buy the Winner X if they want to experience a manual transmission motorcycle.

The Honda CBR150R is equipped with a 150cc, single-cylinder engine, coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission, producing a maximum power of 17 horsepower and a maximum torque of 14.4Nm (Photo: Tuan Viet).
In addition, the CBR150R's direct competitor, the Yamaha YZF-15, has a more attractive price, starting from 70 million VND, adding competitive pressure to Honda's model. However, sales of the YZF-R15 are not really good, according to sales consultants.
Experts explain that both the Honda CBR150R and Yamaha YZF-R15 have sport-bike designs. While the bodywork has many eye-catching lines, the clip-on handlebars provide a riding position unsuitable for everyday commuting.
In the 150cc motorcycle segment priced around 70 million VND, Yamaha has more products than Honda, for example: the MT-15 (from 69 million VND) or the XS155R (from 77 million VND). Among these, the XS155R is experiencing stable sales thanks to its retro design (modern classic), which suits the tastes of Vietnamese customers.
