Nhu Nguyet Road embankment repair project: Striving for completion in January 2026.

After more than 3 months of construction, the project to mitigate the effects of storms, high tides, and sea waves on Nhu Nguyet Street is progressing well and is highly likely to be completed in January 2026.

By the end of October 2025, Nhu Nguyet Street was severely damaged by the impact of storms and high tides. Many sections were eroded by waves, with erosion extending several meters inland, and numerous sidewalk paving stones shattered. This damage to the Nhu Nguyet Street embankment was not unique to 2025; it had occurred in previous years as well.

In response to this situation, the City People's Committee has approved the project to mitigate the effects of storms, high tides, and sea waves on Nhu Nguyet Street, with a total investment of over 12.4 billion VND, scheduled to commence on September 3, 2025. The project is managed and implemented by the Da Nang Infrastructure Maintenance Board under the direction of the Department of Construction.

Construction efforts

Visiting the construction site in mid-December 2025, we observed that the pace of construction was accelerating compared to the initial plan. The atmosphere along the route was one of urgency. Construction teams worked continuously, with machinery operating non-stop to complete each item. Workers seized every hour and minute to meet deadlines, despite the heat and noise characteristic of construction sites. Technical supervisors were present on-site, checking every detail to ensure quality. All of this created a vibrant work pace, demonstrating a determination to bring the project to completion as committed.

At the eroded embankment, dozens of workers, divided into small teams, measured, cut steel, and installed formwork panels in preparation for pouring concrete. Above, near the water's edge, excavators continuously dug up soil, reinforcing the eroded foundation and creating a new embankment slope. In another area, a group of workers installed gabions diligently to meet deadlines. Below, another team busily poured concrete for the embankment foundation, with concrete mixer trucks constantly moving in and out, creating a never-ending cycle... Supervising engineers stood at key points, their eyes fixed on the crucial construction areas, continuously checking the elevation and slope of each structural layer to ensure the new embankment met technical standards and could withstand the load better.

According to worker Nguyen Van Tu, taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, construction teams are concentrating manpower and equipment, working continuously to urgently reinforce the embankment.

According to Pham The Chau, a field technician, the priority in construction is currently reinforcing severely damaged sections of the embankment, using a system of steel piles to erect a wave barrier. Units are urgently mobilizing manpower and equipment to the site, striving to accelerate the construction progress. “Every day, we deploy dozens of workers to complete the embankment as quickly as possible. On sunny days, the workers work continuously from morning to night, making the most of every hour to meet the deadline. However, the alternating sunny and rainy weather has made construction less than ideal,” Chau shared.

Aiming for completion by January 2026

The Nhu Nguyet embankment is one of the important roads running along the Han River, playing a crucial role in protecting the infrastructure and residents of Hai Chau ward. However, the embankment, as designed previously, cannot withstand large waves and tides exceeding its design capacity. The frequent impact of storms and waves on the embankment poses a serious risk to the safety of infrastructure and the landscape along the Han River. Therefore, urgently repairing the damage is crucial not only for ensuring safe travel for residents but also for mitigating the risk of infrastructure damage during the rainy season.

Mr. Tran Le Minh Tam, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Infrastructure Maintenance Board, said that the embankment along Nhu Nguyet Street was severely damaged due to the impact of large waves during the recent storm. These days, many machines, equipment, and workers are racing against time, working overtime to complete the project's components according to schedule, ensuring safety and urban aesthetics.

“We are focusing on constructing breakwaters to mitigate the impact of upcoming high tides. To date, the project to mitigate the effects of storms, high tides, and sea waves on Nhu Nguyet road has reached 65% completion and is expected to be finished in January 2026. Currently, the main solution being implemented by the construction unit is to renovate the embankment wall with a “wave-reflecting” structure. The design involves raising the existing embankment wall by approximately 0.9-1.1m using a reinforced concrete structure designed to reflect waves, thereby minimizing the possibility of waves hitting the sidewalk,” Mr. Tam said.
