Nam Khat has become the first new rural commune in the mountainous district of Mu Cang Chai ( Yen Bai province) after more than 15 years of implementing national target programs.

Great joy came to the Mong people in Nam Khat commune this morning (March 5th) as the locality proudly received the title of New Rural Commune.
Starting as a particularly disadvantaged commune (classified as a 30a commune), Nam Khat had a high poverty rate, uneven levels of education, and a severely inadequate infrastructure including transportation, electricity, roads, schools, and health stations. Thanks to the determination of the entire political system of Yen Bai province, the efforts from the district to the commune level, and especially the consensus and solidarity of the people, Nam Khat has successfully achieved the New Rural Area (NRA) goal.

Now, Nam Khat has eco-tourism resorts and dozens of homestay tourism models, becoming an impressive experiential destination in Mu Cang Chai. Many businesses have invested in high-quality agricultural production (vegetables, flowers, tubers, and fruits) with sustainable output linkages, bringing economic benefits and creating jobs for the Mong people.
Over the past 15 years, the commune has mobilized over 593 billion VND (with nearly 80 billion VND contributed by the people and over 12,000 square meters of land donated), and to date, more than 92% of the main village roads have been paved, facilitating transportation. The highland commune has also overcome natural challenges to achieve a 54% rate of irrigation system paving, proactively serving agricultural production. The Mong people have converted low-yield, inefficient rice fields to cultivate 76 hectares of roses and 30 hectares of various vegetables, fruits, and mushrooms. There are also over 120 models of raising buffalo, cattle, goats, pigs, and high-quality salmon and sturgeon, providing stable incomes of 200-300 million VND per year...

Education, healthcare, and socio-cultural aspects have seen many positive changes. The rate of trained workers has reached nearly 90%. The rate of trained workers with degrees and certificates has reached 25%. The rate of people participating in health insurance has reached 100%. The rate of cultural villages has reached 100%. Average per capita income has reached over 46 million VND/year, and notably, the poverty rate has decreased to below 12%.
Presenting flowers to congratulate Nam Khat commune, Mr. Tran Huy Tuan - Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee - acknowledged and praised the efforts of the Party Committee, government, and people of the commune in striving to become the first commune in the mountainous district to achieve the New Rural Area standard.
"The New Rural Area title achieved by Nam Khat commune is the culmination of the spirit of great unity, a vivid testament to the continuous efforts of the entire political system and the people of Nam Khat over the years. This is the realization of the goal and aspiration to strive for a happy life, bringing Mu Cang Chai out of the list of districts nationwide that lack New Rural Area communes," said Tran Huy Tuan, Secretary of the Yen Bai Provincial Party Committee.

Nam Khat was awarded 1 billion VND, and on this occasion, the leaders of the Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee presented certificates of merit to 2 collectives and 3 individuals. The Mu Cang Chai District People's Committee also awarded certificates of merit to 5 collectives and 12 individuals for their outstanding achievements in contributing to the impressive journey towards achieving the New Rural Area goal in this mountainous commune where over 93% of the population are ethnic Mong people.
