German media on June 14 quoted NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg affirming the importance of strengthening the overall picture as well as presence at sea for deterrence and defense.

According to NATO leaders, the new unit, called the "Undersea Critical Infrastructure Security Center" of this alliance, will be located at the Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) in Northwood near London, England.

At the same time, Mr. Stoltenberg also expressed hope that the meeting of NATO Defense Ministers on June 15-16 in Brussels (Belgium) to prepare for the NATO Summit in Vilnius (Lithuania) next July will make a decision regarding the establishment of the new maritime unit mentioned above.

On the same day, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the US Air Force had sent F-22 Raptor fighter jets to the Middle East region.

According to the ministry, this is to prevent what they consider "unsafe and unprofessional" behavior by Russian aircraft in the area.

The F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation stealth fighter, among the most modern aircraft of the US Air Force.

CENTCOM Commander General Michael Kurilla affirmed that, together with its partners and allies, the US is “committed to improving security and stability in the region”.

According to CENTCOM, F-22 fighter jets from Langley Air Force Base in Virginia can provide overwhelming force at a moment's notice.
