On June 24, at its daily press briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed attacks targeting a major logistics center of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This center is a large weapons depot used to accumulate, store, and redistribute weapons, including missiles supplied to Ukraine by the West.
Russian military officials did not provide any further details about the attack. However, images from Ukraine show a large weapons cache hidden in a civilian facility used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the city of Odessa being destroyed.
In the morning, a series of explosions rocked the outskirts of Odessa. Russian Kalibr missiles struck the local Krayan Heavy Crane Factory. Ukrainian media claimed that Russian troops had attacked a civilian facility, but the large fire and subsequent secondary explosions indicated that the targeted factory was used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to SF, the factory was used by the Ukrainian military to store missiles, including those supplied by NATO.
The destroyed factory was located in the port of Odessa, where NATO supplies weapons to Ukraine by sea. This factory was a very convenient facility that could have been transformed into a crucial strategic logistics center for the Ukrainian army.
At the same time, air raid sirens sounded in the area south of Mykolaiv. According to unconfirmed local reports, the target was a US-made HIMARS high-mobility artillery missile system deployed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area. This HIMARS system may have been used by Ukrainian forces in the attack on the city of Sevastopol on June 23.
The Russian military announced it would retaliate against the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on a crowded beach in Sevastopol with ATACMS missiles. As a result, Russian retaliatory attacks destroyed NATO missile depots and reportedly destroyed their launchers. According to SF, Russian attacks on Ukrainian military facilities are likely to continue.
