It is expected that the total amount of fruit sold during this period across Central Retail's entire retail system will exceed 700 tons.

Tien Giang province has the largest area of fruit tree cultivation in the country, with over 70,000 hectares and an annual production of over 1.8 million tons of various fruits. Among these are several specialty fruits such as Hoa Loc mangoes, Co Co pomelos, Cai Lay durians, and Vinh Kim Lo Ren star apples. In recent years, Tien Giang's fruits have gradually established their brand and quality in both domestic and international markets. The Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee also prioritizes seeking, developing, and expanding markets through trade promotion programs, building supply chains, and creating favorable conditions for the consumption of the province's agricultural products.

Mr. Pham Van Trong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Tien Giang province, said that this is the second time this event has been organized in Tien Giang province to promote and introduce the richness and diversity of delicious fruits and specialties in Tien Giang province in particular and the Mekong Delta region as well as Vietnam in general.

Accordingly, processed fruit products and OCOP products from the Mekong Delta provinces and some northern provinces will also be introduced to a wide range of consumers. This will create a connection between production and consumption of agricultural products, contributing to gradually affirming and enhancing the position of Vietnamese fruits in domestic and international markets.

According to Mr. Pham Van Trong, building on the success of last year's event, and as a reminder to all Vietnamese families, the upcoming "Fifth Day of the Fifth Month" festival is also a time when people across the country can enjoy the most delicious fruits.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Olivier Langlet, General Director of Central Retail Vietnam, said that the Vietnam Fruit Festival 2023, which opens today, combines the traditional family culture of the "Fifth Day of the Fifth Month" with the ripening fruit season, from lychees from Bac Giang and plums from Son La in the North, down to mangosteen, mangoes, and durians from the Mekong Delta... into a tradition that Central Retail Vietnam is proud to organize so that people can easily find and give gifts to their loved ones.

“This year’s event marks the first time that provinces in the Mekong Delta region have participated; and it is also the first time Central Retail has simultaneously promoted specialty fruits across its entire nationwide supermarket system – to create a big impact and strongly promote Vietnamese fruits, aiming to create a new cultural phenomenon – the ‘Fruit Festival’. We hope that during the Vietnam Fruit Festival 2023 , consumers shopping at GO!, Big C, and Tops Market supermarkets will actively support Vietnamese specialty fruit products so that they can further affirm their quality and brand reputation in modern retail systems,” Mr. Olivier Langlet emphasized.

The organizers also hope that the Vietnam Fruit Festival will gradually be elevated to a "National Fruit Festival," organized annually by Central Retail for all Vietnamese people.
