Changing the mindset in market approach
As one of the cooperatives showcasing products at the booth serving the Forum "Improving the effectiveness of trade promotion, connecting supply and demand, and supporting the consumption of products in the collective economic sector and cooperatives in 2024", Ms. Nguyen Dieu Thuy - Director of Phu Quy Medicinal Herbs Cooperative (Thai Hoa town) said that although the cooperative is still young (established in 2020), it has already had 7 products certified with OCOP 3 stars.
The cooperative's activities have been gradually contributing to the restoration and development of the potential and strengths of local medicinal plant resources, in line with the development orientation of medicinal plants in the Northwest region of Nghe An province.
Participating in booth exhibitions with units inside and outside the province is a very practical activity, helping cooperatives broaden their horizons and change their thinking in product development and market access.
At the forum "Improving the effectiveness of trade promotion, connecting supply and demand, and supporting product consumption in the collective economic sector and cooperatives in 2024" recently held in Vinh City, many cooperatives in Nghe An province, including Sen Que Bac Cooperative (Nam Dan); Thao Hao Bo Gieng Cooperative (Tuong Duong); Hadalyfa Cua Hoi Company, etc., signed agreements with Lotte Vinh Company to sell their products.
Mr. Pham Kim Tien, Director of the Sen Que Bac Cooperative, said that for a long time, the cooperative has had many solutions to exploit the potential and connect product consumption. These include developing experiential tourism tours, combining visits to the Lotus Village with activities related to lotus fields and processing lotus products such as making cakes and tea; creating souvenir sales points at tourist destinations, airports, and train stations to promote and introduce products to various customer segments. In addition, the cooperative also promotes its products through social media, websites, and mass media.
In particular, through participation in trade promotion programs organized by the Provincial Cooperative Union, such as trade fairs and supply-demand connection forums, the cooperative's products have been accepted by many businesses and organizations inside and outside the province, expanding distribution channels and cooperating with supermarkets and convenience stores.
"Every year, the Provincial Cooperative Union organizes a trade promotion forum, connecting supply and demand, and supporting the consumption of products from the collective economic sector and cooperatives. This creates favorable conditions for cooperatives in the province to access businesses, thereby signing the most effective supply and demand agreements. Otherwise, it would be very difficult for cooperatives to find markets for their products," shared a representative of the Sen Que Bac Cooperative.
Mr. Cao Minh Tu, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, added: "In the past, trade promotion activities have always been coordinated by the Department of Industry and Trade with other sectors, including the Provincial Cooperative Union, constantly seeking solutions for trade activities."
Alongside this is the promotion of information technology application in trade promotion. To date, the Nghe An e-commerce trading platform has supported more than 470 businesses and traders in registering as members and setting up online stores, attracting over 9.2 million visits; introducing and offering for sale 3,723 products and services.
Every year, through trade promotion activities, we support and connect the consumption of about 50,000 - 60,000 tons of oranges, 20,000 - 30,000 tons of tangerines, 25,000 - 30,000 tons of pineapples, 5,000 tons of ginger, 5,000 tons of lemons, and 800 tons of processed aquatic and seafood products.
Notable examples include processed products such as Pu Mat herbal tea, Do Luong rice crackers, Dien Chau lotus peanuts, Quynh sea seafood, Cua Lo seafood, Nam Dan veal sausage, turmeric starch, etc. To date, many products have achieved OCOP star ratings ; many typical rural industrial products have entered the supply chains of supermarkets and food stores, department stores, and OCOP product showrooms and sales points. Notably, some processed agricultural products have found export markets in West Asian countries, Japan, South Korea, and other countries.
Further strengthen trade promotion efforts.
To continue effectively implementing trade promotion programs, connecting supply and demand, and contributing to improving the efficiency of production and business in the collective economic sector and cooperatives, in the coming time, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van De suggested that the Provincial Cooperative Union should continue to proactively implement many activities, integrate support programs, and concretize policies of the Central Government and the province to advise, guide, and support cooperatives in building production models along the value chain.
In addition, it is necessary to focus on advising on production model orientation, connecting raw material areas and product consumption; supporting the development of trademarks; and organizing for cooperatives and member units with products and goods to participate in promotion, market research, and partner search at trade promotion conferences and fairs organized by the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance and provinces.
Despite the achievements, the reality is that the number of products from cooperatives, craft villages, and businesses in Nghe An that dominate the domestic market is still small, and the designs and styles are not diverse or abundant. The number of cooperative products certified as meeting OCOP standards is still low. The linkages between businesses and cooperatives have not been highly effective or stable. The competitiveness of agricultural cooperative products remains low. Further innovation and strengthening of trade promotion activities and supply-demand linkages are necessary.
With the efforts of the Provincial Cooperative Union and businesses, cooperatives, and household businesses, it is expected that OCOP products from Nghe An will become increasingly well-known to consumers through trade promotion activities and supply-demand connections.
