Recently, information circulating on social media has resurfaced regarding artist Bach Tuyet's qualifications, claiming that her doctorate is fake.
Rumors circulate that artist Bach Tuyet has a fake PhD; what does she say?
Following reader feedback, on the morning of November 28th, Tuoi Tre Online contacted the manager of artist Bach Tuyet.
A representative of artist Bach Tuyet stated: "From 1991 to 1995, artist Bach Tuyet studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in the UK. In October 1995, she successfully defended her doctoral thesis."
This man provided images allegedly showing a doctoral degree along with a document from the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in the United Kingdom confirming that artist Bach Tuyet had completed her doctoral thesis on the theatrical arts of Southeast Asian countries in the 21st century.
This confirmation document is dated October 31, 1995.
In addition, representatives of artist Bach Tuyet also provided images of a document sent by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Bulgaria to the Ministry of Culture and Information and the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee on December 19, 1995, regarding artist Bach Tuyet's successful defense of her dissertation and her awarding of the "Doctor of Arts" degree.

According to the Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training , the recognition of diplomas issued by foreign institutions is currently carried out in accordance with Circular 13/2021/TT-BGDĐT.
Recognition of diplomas is carried out at the request of the diploma holder or the human resources management agency or labor management unit, with the consent of the diploma holder.
The recognition of diplomas issued by foreign educational institutions stems from the needs of individuals holding these diplomas or organizations employing individuals with foreign diplomas.
To determine whether a particular diploma is recognized, the correct procedures must be followed and all required documents must be provided.
Therefore, if artist Bach Tuyet wants her doctorate degree to be recognized, she needs to submit an application along with confirmation documents from the embassy and supporting documents proving her academic progress and doctoral thesis defense to the Quality Management Department, Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, for consideration and issuance of a certificate of recognition of the degree's value.
Currently, artist Bach Tuyet has not yet completed the procedure to have her doctoral degree confirmed.
The doctoral thesis of artist Bach Tuyet could not be found.
However, in an interview with Tuoi Tre Online , an education expert in the UK stated:
"I searched the alumni list of RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) but couldn't find Ms. Tuyet, even by her last name, first name, or any part of her name at: https://www.rada.ac.uk/profiles
Assuming the photograph of Ms. Tuyet is genuine, it appears to be not a doctoral degree, but rather an award certificate.
The signature on the award certificate appears to be the genuine signature of the RADA principal at the time, Nicholas Barter, who served as RADA principal from 1993 to 2007.
His signature also appeared on other RADA diplomas and certificates during Nicholas Barter's tenure as principal.
No doctoral dissertation titled "The adaptation of the traditional theatrical art of Southeast Asian countries with modern living conditions of the audience in the 21st century" as reported in the press could be found.
My preliminary conclusion is that Ms. Tuyet only has a certificate of commendation from RADA, and is not an alumnus or holds a doctorate from RADA."
On January 17th, Forbes selected artist Bach Tuyet as one of the top 50 most influential women over 50 in Asia.
Regarding this selection, the magazine wrote: "Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet (full name) is a household artist in Vietnam, known for her Cai Luong music – a modern form of traditional opera."
She earned her doctorate in 1995 and, at the age of 60, was recognized as a People's Artist, Vietnam's highest honor for those in the creative arts.
