Acceptance of results of provincial-level science and technology task "Research on application of nanotechnology to preserve avocado and durian in Dak Lak"

Avocado and durian are two fruit trees with high economic value, playing an important role in the agricultural structure of Dak Lak province. However, post-harvest preservation of these two fruits is facing many difficulties due to their easy rotting and spoilage, short storage time and high loss rate. Currently, traditional preservation methods have not met the requirements for quality and preservation time, leading to a decrease in commercial value and limited export potential. In that context, research and application of nanotechnology and fruit preservation are considered a potential direction, bringing high efficiency thanks to the ability to control the rotting and spoilage process, prolonging storage time and maintaining product quality. The experimental task is to produce and apply nanomaterials to preserve avocado and durian in Dak Lak.

On the morning of August 4, 2025, the Department of Science and Technology of Dak Lak province organized a Science and Technology Council to evaluate and accept the results of the implementation of the provincial-level science and technology task "Research on the application of nanotechnology to preserve avocado and durian in Dak Lak". The task was chaired by the University of Natural Sciences and chaired by Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Hong Hanh.
Overview of the Council
Dr. Nguyen Van Thuong - Former Deputy Director of the Central Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute, Vice Chairman of the Council contributed opinions at the Council

The results of the task have completed the research contents according to the description and objectives: Researching the current status of cultivation, harvesting, preliminary processing, preservation and processing of avocado and durian in Dak Lak province; manufacturing, evaluating the properties and ability to inhibit fungi and bacteria of nano Ag and nano ZnO materials, thereby selecting the optimal material for use in preservation; designing a real-time multi-parameter measuring system that can measure Ethylene, CO2 concentrations, temperature and humidity in the warehouse/box for preserving fruits after harvest, adjusting the parameters of the device to suit the storage warehouse; researching and manufacturing a gel solution containing nano materials and biological polymers to preserve waxy avocados on a laboratory scale; building a model for applying technology to preserve 100kg of avocados that can be expanded to a scale of 01 ton; Manufacturing and optimizing the process of manufacturing a gel solution containing nanomaterials and biological polymers to preserve traditional durian on a laboratory scale; building a model for applying technology to preserve 100kg of traditional durian that can be expanded to a scale of 01 ton in Dak Lak.

MSc. Pham Gia Viet - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology contributed his opinion at the Council.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham The Trinh - Head of Science Management Department contributed opinions at the Council

After listening to the report of the task management board on the implementation results, the council highly appreciated the practical significance of the task. In addition, the council members contributed many opinions and requested the project management board to edit and supplement some contents to complete the implementation results report and hand over the product within the prescribed time such as: supplementing technological processes and administrative records attached to these processes; updating data on the current avocado and durian production situation; the assessment of the avocado and durian usage situation needs statistical processing. The project results were classified as: Satisfactory by the acceptance council.

Dr. Bui Thanh Toan - Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Dak Lak province, Chairman of the Council delivered the concluding remarks of the Council.
