After evaluating over 270 applications from 65 countries worldwide , the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) has honored Lo Lo Chai (Lung Cu commune, Tuyen Quang province) as one of the "Best Tourism Villages 2025".
The “World’s Best Village ” award, initiated by UN Tourism, is a global initiative to honor rural destinations that have achieved outstanding results in cultural and natural conservation, sustainable tourism development, and improving livelihoods for communities.

The award is selected based on a rigorous system of criteria regarding governance, innovation, sustainability, environment, and contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), becoming an international benchmark for high-quality community tourism models.
Thus far, five Vietnamese villages have been honored by UN Tourism as "World's Best Tourist Villages" for the years 2022 to 2025. These include Thai Hai village (Thai Nguyen), Tan Hoa village (Quang Tri), Tra Que vegetable village ( Da Nang ), Lo Lo Chai village (Tuyen Quang), and Quynh Son village (Lang Son).
Nestled beside the Lung Cu flagpole at the foot of Dragon Mountain, Lo Lo Chai is known as a "fairy tale village" because of its rustic and poetic beauty, featuring characteristic stone fences of the rocky plateau region.
Located at the northernmost point of Vietnam, Lo Lo Chai has become a shining example of community-based tourism development, providing a sustainable source of income and helping local people improve their lives.
Recognized as a Cultural Tourism Village since 2022, Lo Lo Chai now has more amenities to serve tourists while still preserving its rustic landscape.
Currently, the village has a total of 51 homestay businesses, 2 restaurants, and 5 stalls selling snacks and souvenirs. Room prices here range from 500,000 VND to 1.2 million VND per room. It's usually crowded on weekends and holidays. On weekdays, the number of guests staying is around several hundred.

In recent years, Lo Lo Chai has become a community-based tourism destination, developing in a green and sustainable direction. The local authorities have focused on improving infrastructure while protecting the environment, planning a waste collection and treatment system, limiting the use of single-use plastics, increasing green spaces, improving clean water sources, and providing standard toilets for tourists.
The houses here still retain the traditional architecture of the Lo Lo people, with earthen walls enclosing the property on three sides. The gates and fences are made of handcrafted stacked stones. To suit tourism and attract visitors, the households have also renovated and added enclosed toilets, convenient for guests to eat, stay, and use without affecting the exterior architecture or the overall structure.
This also involves preserving traditional landscapes and architecture, using natural and environmentally friendly materials, and controlling visitor numbers appropriately to ensure ecological balance.
Local people have their capabilities enhanced through training programs in hospitality, service management, food safety and hygiene, fire prevention and control, environmental protection, and civilized tourism conduct.
Local livelihood development is promoted through homestay models, local cuisine, traditional crafts, agricultural cultural experiences, ensuring fair benefit sharing, creating stable jobs, and encouraging the participation of women and youth.
To date, communication and promotion efforts have been widely implemented through publications, digital platforms, and tour connection programs, contributing to spreading the image of Lo Lo Chai as a green, safe, friendly, and sustainable cultural destination in the international tourism market.
According to a representative from the Tuyen Quang Department of Tourism, the recognition of Lo Lo Chai village by UN Tourism is of great significance, contributing to putting Tuyen Quang tourism on the world map.
