The President of the National Assembly and his wife began an official visit to Senegal from July 22-24 at the invitation of President of the Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye.
Welcoming National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife and delegation at the airport were Chairman of the Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye and several members of the Standing Committee of the Senegalese National Assembly, Director of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , and Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Chairman of the Senegalese National Assembly.

On the Vietnamese side, there were Vietnamese Ambassador to Algeria and Senegal Tran Quoc Khanh, Embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Senegal.
Local people welcomed National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his wife and delegation with special traditional dances.
This is the first official visit by a key Vietnamese leader to Senegal since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1969.
It is expected that National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will hold talks with Senegalese National Assembly Chairman El Malick Ndiaye; the two sides will sign a cooperation agreement between the two countries' parliaments to create a legal framework for strengthening relations between the two legislative bodies.
The National Assembly Chairman and the Senegalese National Assembly Chairman will chair a discussion on legal policies to promote agricultural, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Senegal.

The National Assembly Chairman will also meet with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye and Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. During the visit, the National Assembly Chairman and his delegation will carry out many other activities.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1969, the two countries have maintained good relations, with effective cooperation at the United Nations, the Francophonie and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Trade between the two countries has progressed positively in recent times, reaching over 81 million USD in 2024; in the first 4 months of 2025, Vietnam's export turnover to Senegal reached over 43 million USD, equivalent to the whole year of 2024.
It is estimated that there are about 3,000 Vietnamese and Vietnamese-origin people in Senegal, mainly consisting of about 300 families with Vietnamese wives and Senegalese husbands who settled in the 1950s and 1960s and their descendants.
This visit is expected to create momentum to promote bilateral economic, trade and parliamentary relations in depth.
