(To Quoc) - On the morning of November 8th, a film screening for the audience of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival 2024 (HANIFF VII) took place at the National Film Center in Hanoi. Hanoi audiences had the opportunity to interact with the film crew of "Hanoi in the Winter of 1946".

On the morning of November 8th, at the National Film Center in Hanoi, a film screening program for the audience of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival 2024 took place. The film "Hanoi in the Winter of 1946" by director Dang Nhat Minh was one of the classic films selected for screening on this occasion.

From early on, many film-loving residents of Hanoi gathered at the National Film Center to watch this movie.

Director Dang Nhat Minh and his team were present to interact with the audience.

"As a history enthusiast, I chose to watch the film 'Hanoi in the Winter of 1946'. I really wanted to see through the screen the heroic historical images of our ancestors in the early days of the young Democratic Republic of Vietnam," shared Phi Dam Nguyen, a student at Hanoi University of Pharmacy.

"Hanoi in the Winter of 1946" is a film about Hanoi before the nationwide resistance war on December 19, 1946, and the historical moment of the capital. Therefore, the film attracted many elderly Hanoi residents who came to relive the historical images of Hanoi from the past.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, now 101 years old, attended this special film screening along with People's Artist Director Viet Huong. "I've lived through Hanoi's historical periods and witnessed its transformations, so I really wanted to see those familiar images again through the lens of cinema. I also greatly admire People's Artist Director Dang Nhat Minh, so I wanted to come and congratulate the film crew," Mr. Thanh Son shared.

Actress and Meritorious Artist Hoa Thúy met director Đặng Nhật Minh 27 years after their role in "Hanoi in the Winter of 1946".

Audience members took photos and interacted with People's Artist Dang Nhat Minh and director/actor Ngo Quang Hai.

Director Dang Nhat Minh, 86 years old, was escorted onto the stage by artists to interact with the audience amidst applause.

The director said the idea for the film came from his emotions after researching many documents about wartime. Additionally, he wanted to make the film because his father – Dr. Dang Van Ngu – had returned from Japan to participate in the resistance in 1949. The doctor successfully researched how to produce the antibiotics penicillin and streptomycin, contributing to the treatment of infections for many people.

"Hanoi in the Winter of 1946" captures a crucial historical moment: the failure of negotiations at the Fontainebleau Conference in France led President Ho Chi Minh to sign a provisional agreement with France to prepare for the situation. The film also explores the domestic and foreign policy capabilities of the then-provisional government. It won numerous awards at the 12th Vietnam Film Festival in 1999, including the Silver Lotus Award, Best Director (Dang Nhat Minh), Best Cinematography (Vu Quoc Tuan), Best Art Director (Pham Quoc Trung), and Best Music Composer (Do Hong Quan).

Actress Mai Thu Huyen shared that the project is one of the representative works about war, so that the younger generation can learn more about the bombing period in the North. In 2023, Mai Thu Huyen watched the film with her daughter at the "Now It's October" program in Ho Chi Minh City. The actress said her daughter really liked the film because it spread patriotism to the audience through many scenes. "I hope that young people can watch films that reflect the nation's history," she said.

People's Artist and cinematographer Vu Quoc Tuan said he couldn't hold back his tears during many scenes depicting the suffering of war. He felt honored to be working on a story inspired by a real event. He and the film crew visited other provinces and cities such as Hung Yen and Hai Phong , but still chose Hanoi because he believed the city had its own unique charm. The crew had to prepare each costume for the actors, meticulously create and restore armored vehicle props, and renovate the sets. The work is set in 1946, but faced difficulties in filming locations when shooting in the late 1990s. Hanoi underwent many changes and urban planning, so the team had to study the architecture of old buildings and dedicate their efforts to recreating the settings.

Many viewers were moved when watching scenes from the film "Hanoi in the Winter of 1946"...

and gave a standing ovation when the film ended to congratulate the film crew.
